Tecno Camon 30 4G (CL6/CL6k) Review, Price And Specifications.
If you prioritise camera, design and display in a budget phone, you might want to check out Tecno Camon 30 4G (CL6/CL6K). To simply put, Tecno Camon 30 stands out (among its peers) with its impressive camera, attractive design, and stunning display. Yet, like the competition, it packs a beefy CPU, high RAM and spacious inbuilt storage. It’s also running on a recent Android OS. And there’s an assurance of major OS updates for the phone.
Meanwhile, as a result of a similar hole-punch display, the front of the Camon 30 looks like that of the Tecno Camon 20 (CK6). But the back of the new phone looks different. The two vertically stacked camera modules on the earlier phone has been replaced with a big circular module. Though there are few others, but the circular module is the major thing gives the new phone a more appealing looks than its predecessor. Also despite looking like the one on the earlier phone, the display of the latest phone is slightly bigger, more brighter and prettier.
The camera system on the Tecno Camon 30 is also better than the one on its predecessor. Though, the latest phone has a lower megapixel main back camera, yet it delivers slightly clearer and better looking photos than that of the earlier phone. And while the main back camera is downgraded, the front-facing camera of the latest phone is fitted with an higher megapixel sensor. And selfies taken with the phone are more realistic and clearer than the ones taken with the earlier model.
Also under the hood, Tecno Camon 30 is equipped with a more powerful CPU and it's running on a recent Android OS. However, the phone's amount of RAM and inbuilt storage remain as those of the earlier phone. The battery capacity also remain the same, though the charging speed has increased. Virtually all other attributes of the Camon 30 remain as those of the Camon 20.
And when compared to the competition. As i said earlier, Tecno Camon 30 stands out with its impressive camera and striking looks. Although the phone also has a stunning display, the main contenders offer similar nice looking displays. The other attributes of the Tecno phone also remain as those of the competition. For instance, Tecno Camon 30 has the same processing power, storage space and Android version as the main contenders.
Design Colour And Price:
Tecno Camon 30 is available in two back cover options. There's one with glass back cover and the other with silicon polymer (eco-leather) back cover. And when it comes to design colours, the Camon 30 comes in LOEWE Edition, Iceland Basaltic Dark, Uyuni Salt White, and Sahara Sand Brown. Currently, the starting price of the Tecno Camon 30 4g is around 320,000 naira upwards.
The Contenders:
Though the version of the Samsung Galaxy A25 that attracts almost the same price as the Camon 30 is fitted with a lower RAM and half of the Tecno phone's inbuilt storage. But the Samsung phone supports 5G networks and its CPU is more powerful. Also despite running on the same Android version as the Camon 30, the A25 offers longer software updates. Photos taken with the Samsung phone also rival those of the Camon 30, but selfies from the Tecno phones are clearer.
Infinix Note 40 has the same CPU, amount of RAM and inbuilt storage as the Camon 30. It also has the same screen attributes. Even, unlike the Camon 30, Note 40 support Wireless and Reverse (wired) charging. It also offers an higher megapixel rear camera. However, photos taken with the Infinix phone's rear camera are not as impressive as the ones taken with the Camon 30. Also selfies taken with the Note 40 are not as life-like as the ones taken with the Camon 30. Features like 3.5mm audio jack and IR Blaster, that are present on the Camon 30, are also missing on the Note 40. The Infinix phone also looks a little less elegant than the Camon 30.
At a little lower price, Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 offers a slightly prettier and brighter display. Yet, the phone has the same amount of RAM and storage space as the Camon 30. Also despite having a different CPU, the processing power is similar to that of the Camon 30. Unlike the Tecno phone however, the Note 13 is pre-installed with previous version of Android OS. Still, the phone compensates that with a longer software support.
Nonetheless, photos taken with the Redmi phone's main rear camera are not as impressive as the ones taken with the Camon 30 (even despite that the phone offers an higher megapixel sensor). Selfies from the Redmi phone also lack the clarity and a more true-to-life colours of the Tecno ones. Even design-wise, the back of the Redmi Note 13 is less appealing than that of the Camon 30, but the front of the Redmi phone looks more premium and classy. Which is a result of its smaller camera cut-out and thinner screen bezel.
Design: Classic And Elegant:
From the front, Tecno Camon 30 looks like the Camon 20. The phone has an identical camera cut-out, and its 6.78-inch screen is just minute bigger than the 6.67-inch of the earlier phone. However, as i said before, the big circular bump on the new phone gives it a more distinct looks. And according to Tecno Mobile, the camera bump is reminiscent of classic camera. Indeed, the bump gives the new phone a more striking and appealing looks than the previous models of the Tecno Camon.
Although the arrangement of ports and buttons are similar to those of the Camon 20, they are slightly different. Because, in addition to secondary speaker (which is the only thing on the top edge of the earlier phone), you also now have IR Port and microphone on the latest phone top edge. The volume keys and power button still retain their former positions, i.e., on the right side. And on the left side is 4G dual nano SIM+microSD card slot (and tray). On the bottom edge is 3.5mm audio jack, primary mic, first speaker, and a USB Type-C port.
Detailed And Life-Like Photography:
Though Tecno Camon 30 features triple rear camera like the Camon 20, but the 64MP main sensor on the earlier phone has been replaced with a 50MP sensor. Nonetheless, the second and third cameras are still Depth sensor (2MP) and AI sensor respectively. Turning to the front, the new phone has a 50MP selfie lens; an impressive upgrade from 30MP selfie lens on the earlier phone.
Beyond my expection, selfies taken with the Camon 30 are remarkably detailed and more clearer than the ones taken with the Camon 20. Colours are more true to life and human subject skin tone is more accurately rendered. Portrait and HDR shots also look impressive.
Also on the other hand, and in spite of its lower megapixel sensor, photos taken with the rear camera of the Camon 30 are slightly clearer and more detailed than the ones taken with the earlier phone. Colours are more impressively true to life. And when it comes to HDR shots, Portrait shots and Night Mode shots, Camon 30 also bested its predecessor. Even, unlike the one on the earlier phone, the main back camera of the Camon 30 features OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).
Meanwhile, because the main rear camera of the Camon 30 is similar to those of the competition, photos taken are as sharp and as detailed as the ones taken with the competing phones. However, when it comes to colour rendition, HDR and Portrait shots, the competing phones are no match for the Camon 30, except for the Galaxy A25. It's only the Samsung phone that also bested the Camon 30 when it comes to Macro shots. In other words, the Macro shots from the Samsung phone are clearer and have better colour rendition than the ones taken with the Tecno phone. In addition to that, the A25 also features an Ultra-wide Angle camera; which is missing on the Camon 30.
Yet, since the Camon 30 is the only one among the competing phones that features highest megapixel front-facing camera, it's able to capture much more clearer and impressively detailed selfies than all the rest. Also when it comes to HDR and Portrait selfies, Camon 30 did an outstanding job.
Concerning video recording. the Tecno phone can shoot videos up to 2K at 30fps (frame per second) with both of its front and rear cameras. And like i said, its back camera features Optical Image Stabilization. Notwithstanding, the Galaxy A25 is still the only one that can shoot videos up to 4K. And the Samsung phone also features Image Stabilization too.
A Slightly Better Looking And Higher Refresh Rate Display.
Although the 1080P AMOLED display of the Camon 30 is similar to that of the Camon 20, the specs are slightly different. Firstly, and apart from the fact that the 6.78-inch screen of the new phone is minute bigger than the 6.67-inch of the Camon 20, it also packs a slightly different 1080p pixels of 2436-by-1080 (393ppi), compared to 2400-by-1080 (395ppi) of the earlier one. However, since the difference in their pixel densities is not that wide (395ppi vs 393pp), so in term of clarity or sharpness, both displays look almost the same. But what really makes a difference is the higher screen refresh rates of the latest one. Unlike that of the Camon 20 that peaked at 90Hz, the screen refresh of the latest phone can go up to 120Hz. Which brings about a smoother scrolling, swiping and gaming experiences. The Under-display fingerprint reader of the latest phone is also more responsive or faster.
Screen Type: AMOLED Capacitive Touch-screen.
