Currently, Infinix Smart 7 Plus and Tecno Pop 7 Pro are among the few budget phones that have the looks and almost all the features of an average mid-range phone.
For instance, both of them feature pretty displays, high RAMs and high storage capacities. The two of them also features USB Type-C ports, and running on the recent Android OS.
However, because the two phones have a lot in common, we tried to compare their features, and examine each phone's Cons and Pros.
Starting from their designs. Both Tecno Pop 7 Pro (BF7) and Infinix Smart 7 Plus (X6517) wear the looks of mid-range or slightly more expensive phones. In other words, they both look classy and attractive.
Yet, the two phones look almost identical. Both of them feature an identical drop-notched displays and have similar shapes. The two also come with similar rear camera bumps.
In short, the only way to quickly tell them apart is by the design patterns on their back covers.
A further look also shows that Infinix Smart 7 Plus is minute bigger and thicker than the Pop 7 Pro. Not only that, the Infinix phone also has a slightly bigger screen of 6.0-inch, while the one on the Tecno phone is of 6.56-inch size. Yet, both displays have the same 720p resolution, the same aspect ratio, and the same good picture quality. Though, the screen of the Pop 7 Pro looks a little more vibrant or brighter than that of the Smart 7 Plus.
Both Tecno Pop 7 Pro and Infinix Smart 7 Plus also have the same camera set-ups. Each of them is fitted with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel dual rear camera. Typical of phones at this price point, the shots from these two phones' cameras won't impress you, still, they look okay. Also, despite that both of them have the same camera setup, photos from each phone look slightly different. For instance, selfies from the front-facing camera of the Tecno Pop 7 look a little more detailed, but the ones from the Smart 7 Plus have more colours.
Under the hood, both Infinix Smart 7 plus and Tecno Pop 7 Pro are pre-loaded with Android 12 OS. Each of them also feature 3GB/4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage space. But each of them is fitted with different entry-level processors. While the Tecno phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 CPU, Smart 7 plus is fitted with Unisoc SC9863A CPU. The Unisoc SC9863A is also an octa-core processor, while the Helio A22 is a quad-core processor.
Though, because the two CPUs are entry-level processors, you can't really get smooth performance from either of the two phones. Yet, as a results of its octa-core chipset, Infinix Smart 7 Plus was able to move quickly than the Pop 7 Pro.
The performance of these two phones can still be boosted through MemFusion. MemFusion enables you to boost the performance of these phones by converting up to 3GB, out of their inbuilt storage capacities, to virtual RAM. Thereby, increasing their default 3GB/4GB RAMs up to 6GB/7GB.
Furthermore, and apart from having different processors, each of the two phones is also equipped with different battery capacities. Again, Infinix Smart 7 Plus is the one with the bigger battery. Because the phone comes with 6,000mAh battery, while the Pop 7 Pro is fitted with the usual 5,000mAh battery.
Still, in spite of its bigger battery, Infinix Smart 7 Plus features standard 10W charging like the Tecno Pop 7 Pro. And as i briefly mentioned at the beginning, both of these phones feature USB Type-C ports.
Both of them also come with other regular features such as rear mounted fingerprint readers, Face Unlocks, single bottom firing speakers and so on.
Price And Design Colour:
Currently, the starting price of the Smart 7 Plus is around 69,000 naira. And it's comes in three colour options of Night Black, Azure Blue, and Emerald Green. On the other hand, the price of the Tecno Pop 7 Pro is about 68,000 naira, and it's also available in three but different colour options of Endless Black, Uyuni Blue & Nebula Purple.
VERDICT:
To me, the strength of the Infinix Smart 7 Plus lies in its bigger battery and slightly smoother performance.
Because despite that the Infinix phone features an almost the same screen size (with similar picture quality) as the Tecno Pop 7 Pro, the one on the Tecno phone looks slightly brighter or clearer. I also prefer the selfies from the Tecno phone because they are appear slightly more detailed. Even, despite that the shots from the rear camera of the Tecno phone also seems to have less saturated colours, they look slightly brighter and clearer.
DESIGN: Same Looks, But Smart 7 Plus Is Slightly Bigger.
Both of the Smart 7 Plus and Pop 7 Pro wear the same attractive looks. They both have flat edges; which make the duo to have an higher screen to body ratios. And it's also made them to look more stylish and appear flatter.
Though, apart from being smaller, Tecno Pop 7 Pro is more flatter than the Smart 7 Plus. This is can been seen from the Tecno phone's 163.9x75.5x8.9mm dimensions, compared to the 164.2x75.6x9.4mm dimensions of the Smart 7 Plus.
In addition to that, Tecno Pop 7 Pro also has a lesser weight. Because the Tecno phone weigh about 190g, while the Infinix phone has a weight of 201g. I think the heavier weight of the Infinix phone comes mostly from its bigger battery.
Also I said earlier, the striking difference between the two phones lies in their back covers' patterns. While the Pop 7 Pro has a smooth back cover, and a few large stripes that run across the back cover, the whole back cover of the Infinix Smart 7 Plus is decorated with small wavy patterns; that are also bumpy to touch.
Except for those ones, all other visible attributes of these two phones are exactly alike. For instance, both of them have an identical and premium looking camera bumps. And each phone's dual rear camera, fingerprint reader, and LED Flash, are also arranged in the same manner inside the camera bumps.
Both of them also have their 3.5mm audio jacks, mono speakers, microphones, and USB Type-C ports placed on the bottom edges. Also while their volume keys and power buttons are placed on the right edges, as usual, both of the phones' 4G Dual Nano-SIM+microSD Card slots are located on the their left edges.
Same Camera Set-ups Slightly Different Photo Quality:
Besides having the same 5-megapixel front-facing cameras, the dual rear camera of each phones also comprises of a 13-megapixel main sensor and a QVGA sensor (which assist the main camera in taking clearer picture, especially in low-light environments).
However, as i said earlier, selfies from the front camera of the Tecno are slightly more detailed, while the ones from the Infinix phone have richer colours.
Furthermore, like the selfies from its front camera, the photos from the rear camera of the Infinix Smart 7 Plus also a has better colours than the ones taken with the Tecno Pop 7 Pro rear camera. Though the level of details (or sharpness) remain almost the same. Still, the shots from the tecno phone appear slightly brighter or clearer. So, to get a more brighter shots from the rear camera of the Infinix phone, you need a good lightening condition.
Generally, and for phones at this price point, photos from both of the Smart 7 Plus and Pop 7 Pro look okay.
By the way, the front and rear cameras of both phones are capable of shooting 1080p videos (max) at 3fps (frame per second).
DISPLAY: Same Resolution But Slightly Different Screen Size:
Placing them side by side and at a glance, the two screens look almost the same, they both have vivid colours and clear pictures. But. if you a take a closer look at them, you'll discover that the minute smaller display of the Tecno Pop 7 Pro is a little brighter or clearer than that of the Infinix Smart 7 Plus, despite the fact that both of them feature the same 720p resolution of 1612-by-720 pixels.
Though, as a result of its slightly smaller size (but same resolution), the screen of the Tecno phone has a little higher pixel density (or sharpness) of 269ppi, compared to the 267ppi pixel density of the Smart 7 Plus'. Nonetheless, it's obvious that the difference in their pixel densities is negligible.
Meanwhile, due to its slightly better brightness, the screen of the Tecno Pop 7 Pro is slightly more visible under direct sunlight than that of the Infinix Smart 7 Plus.
Same OS, Same RAM, Same Storage, But Smart 7 Plus Offers Slightly Better Performance:
Out of the box, both Tecno Pop 7 Pro and Infinix Smart 7 Plus are running on the Android 12 OS. Both of them also come with 3GB or 4GB of RAMs. However, inspite of their high RAMs, their performance is slightly below average, because both of them are fitted with similar entry-level level processors.
Nonetheless, out of the two phones, Infinix Smart 7 Plus offers a slightly smoother performance (especially when it comes to multitasking and gaming). Because, as i said earlier, the Unisoc SC9863A CPU that's inside the Infinix phone is an octa-core processor, while the Helio A22 CPU inside the Tecno phone is a quad-core processor.
However, being a 12nm CPU, Hello A22 is slightly more power efficient than the Unisoc SC9863A; which is a 28nm CPU. And i think this is one of the reasons Infinix equipped Smart 7 Plus with bigger battery.
Meanwhile, as i also mentioned earlier. the performance of the two phones can still be boosted through MemFusion. The feature that enable you to convert up to 3GB of free space (out of the phones' inbuilt storages) to virtual RAMs. Thereby allowing you to increase both the 3GB and 4GB RAM options of the two phones up to 6GB and 7GB, respectively.
Each phone's 64GB internal storage capacity can also be expanded, via microSD cards. But while the inbuilt storage of the Pop 7 Pro is expandable up to 256GB, Infinix stated that the Smart 7 Plus' 64GB internal storage can be expanded up to 2TB (Two Terabyte).
Smart 7 Plus Battery Is Bigger, But Same Standard Charging As The Tecno Pop 7 Pro:
Although Infinix Smart 7 Plus has a bigger battery of 6000mAh, compared to the 5000mah battery of the Tecno phone, but as i said before, the Unisoc SC9863A CPU of the Infinix phone has slight negative effect on its big battery life.
Furthermore, inspite of its bigger battery, Infinix Smart 7 Plus doesn't support fast charging, same as the Tecno Pop 7 Pro. In other words, both of the phones feature standard 10W charging.
And with its out-of-the-box 10W charger, it took Tecno Pop 7 Pro over two And half hours to fully charge its 5,000mAh battery from zero percent. On the other hand, it took Infinix Smart 7 Plus over three hours to fully its bigger 6,000mAh battery from zero percent.
