At an affordable price, Itel P38 Pro (P682L) present the buyers with an array of impressive and essential features. For instance, the phone sports a big 6.8-inch display, 64GB internal storage, 13-megapixel dual rear camera, and a huge 6000mAh battery. This phone also support fast charging.
By the way, Itel P38 Pro (P682L) is the better equipped variant of the recently unveiled Itel P38 (p661w). Both of the Itel P38 and Itel P38 Pro are the latest model of the Itel P-Series, and they succeeded last year's Itel P37 and Itel P37 Pro respectively.
Meanwhile, from the quick specs above, it's obvious that Itel P38 Pro has the same screen size as the earlier model. Not only that, the 6.8-inch screen of the phone also features the same HD+ resolution and similar tear-drop notch as the earlier one. This make the front of the latest phone to look exactly like that of its predecessor.
In short, Itel P38 Pro retain the looks and form factor (size and shape) of the Itel P37 Pro. However, the back of the latest phone looks different. And a few changes have also been made under the hood.
The first thing you'll notice quickly on the back of the Itel P38 Pro is its large and glossy rectangular shape camera bump; which covers half of the upper part of the phone's back cover. As a result, the fingerprintprint reader of the phone, in addition to its rear cameras, is found inside the camera bump.
Also unlike that of the earlier phone that's plain and smooth to touch, the back cover of the Itel P38 Pro is decorated with an array of bumpy but fine lines.
Apart from the looks, the camera set-up on the Itel P38 Pro has also been modified a little. Though the phone still maintain the 13-megapixel dual rear camera of its predecessor, but the 8-megapixel front-facing camera of the earlier phone has been downgraded to 5-megapixel.
Yet, in spite of its lower megapixel sensor, the front-facing camera of the Itel P38 Pro, like its high megapixel rear camera, was able to take decent pictures.
Furthermore, and despite that the phone also maintain the major internal components of its predecessor, yet things have changed a little. For instance, while the earlier phone was pre-installed with Android 10 Go Edition OS, Itel P38 Pro is pre-installed with Android 11 Go Edition. The latest phone is also available in one (but higher) internal storage option of 64GB, unlike the earlier phone that came in lower storage option of 32GB.
Though Itel P38 Pro also retain the 2GB of RAM of the earlier model, yet the latest phone's RAM can still be increased, up to 4GB, through MemFusion (more on this later).
However, Itel P38 Pro still features the same Unisoc SC9863A CPU that powered Itel P37 Pro (and the prior model). Because of that, the performance of the phone is still similar to that of the earlier model.
Nonetheless, the main two things that really make a difference in the specs of the Itel P38 Pro, when you compared them to those of its predecessor (and those of others in this segment), are its bigger battery and support for fast charging.
In other words, and compared to the 5000mAh battery of its predecessor, Itel P38 Pro is equipped with a bigger 6000mAh battery. This phone also support 18W fast charging.
Except for the two, and few other modifications (plus updates) mentioned above, other features of the Itel P38 Pro are still like those of the earlier model.
Price And Design Colours:
The current price of the Itel P38 Pro is about 71,000 naira. And it's available in three colour options of Ocean Blue, Night Black, and Mint Green.
DESIGN: Same Looks, But Different Back Cover And Camera Bump:
Because Itel P38 Pro comes in size and shape of the Itel P37 Pro, the only two things that distinguish the latest phone from the earlier model are the large camera bump and design pattern on its back cover.
And i said earlier, and due to its large size, the bump houses the fingerprint reader and two rear cameras of this phone. Though it seems there are three vertically arranged sensors inside the bump, but the one in the middle is actually an LED flash. While the first and last sensors are the phone's two rear cameras.
Except for the large camera bump and different looking back cover, every other visible attributes of the Itel P38 Pro, including keys and buttons, are still like those of the Itel P37 Pro.
The power button and the volume keys are still on the right edge of this phone, while its dual nano SIM+SD card slot (and tray) is also located on the left edge.
Also, there is nothing on the top edge of the phone, because the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, MicroUSB port, and its single speaker, are placed on the bottom edge.
Concerning the overall looks of the Itel P38 Pro. Though the large camera bump gives the latest phone a distinct and trendy looks, but that's the only thing that makes a difference. Because the phone's display and form factor are still like those of the Itel P37 Pro.
Also, personally, i still prefer the average size (yet pretty) camera bump of the earlier phone, and its smooth back cover. Because they make the earlier phone to look more sleeker.
Same 6.8-inch HD+ Display:
The screen size, and other attributes of the Itel P38 Pro display remain as those of the earlier model.
Because the 6.8-inch display of the latest phone also has an IPS-LCD panel. And it also features the same 20.5:9 aspect ratio, and the same HD+ (1640x720) resolution.
In other words, the 6.8-inch display of the Itel P38 Pro also has the same pixel density or sharpness of 254ppi as that of the Itel P37 Pro.
Also like the earlier one, the brightness level on this screen is good, and colours also look okay. Yet, in spite of its bigger size and good brightness, the colours on the Itel P38 Pro display are still not as rich, or as vivid, as those of the slightly more expensive entry-level phones such as Tecno Spark 9, Tecno Spark 9T and Infinix Hot 12i.
Decent Cameras:
The photos from the 13-megapixel rear camera of the Itel P38 Pro are clear and sharp. Though the clarity is not that impressive, because it's what you normally get on this kind of phone (especially at this price point), yet, the pictures look quite okay. The colours didn't appear washed out, or over-saturated.
On the other hand, and as a result of its lower 5-megapixel sensor, the front-facing camera of the Itel P38 Pro was not able to deliver sharp and clear pictures like the rear camera, yet, it maintain other picture qualities of the rear camera.
The video recording, for the front-facing camera of the Itel P38 Pro is capped at 720p, 30fps (frame per second), while the rear camera of the phone is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. Both none support OIS (Image Stabilization).
Same CPU, But Recent Software And MemFusion:
Though, the SC9863A CPU that powered Itel P38 Pro is a low-end Unisoc (Spreadtrum) processor, but it's more better than the one (Unisoc SC7731E) that's inside Itel P38. Because Unisoc SC9863A belongs to the category of MediaTek Helio A22 CPU which powered the likes of Infinix Smart 6 Plus.
Even, being an octa-core processor (with clock speeds of up to 1.6Ghz), the phone was able to multi-task and handle daily tasks such as internet browsing easily. Also to ensure better performance, the 2GB of RAM of the Itel P38 Pro can also be increased through MemFusion.
MemFusion enables you to convert certain amount of your phone's internal storage space to Virtual RAM. In other words, and in case of the Itel P38 Pro, MemFusion enables you to convert up to 2GB of free space (out of the phone's inbuilt storage) to RAM. Thereby, making the total amount of RAM, available on this phone, to be 4GB.
Also with the phone's PowerVR-GE8322 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), Itel P38 Pro was able to handle some mid-range games. Though, you have to play them at low graphics settings, to bring about smoothness.
Bigger 6000mAh Battery, And Fast Charging:
In addition to its huge 6000mAh battery, another selling point of the Itel P38 Pro is its support for fast charging. In fact, the charging rate of the latest phone is over three and half times (3.5x) faster than that of the Itel P37 Pro.
In other words, and compared to the 5W charging of the Itel P37 Pro, Itel P38 Pro support an 18W fast charging. Therefore, and with the phone's out-of-the-box 18W charger, it'll take you almost three and half hours to fully charge this phone's battery (which is even 6000mAh) when it drops to one percent. While it took the earlier's phone almost four and half hours to charge its 5000mAh battery (with its 5W charger).
