Tecno Spark 8 (kg6) is the latest model of the Tecno Spark Series. And it's also the successor to the last year's Tecno Spark 7. By the way, Tecno Spark 8 was released alongside its better equipped brother Tecno Spark 8P (kg7h).

Note: Tecno Spark 8 (kg6) shares specs with both the base and standard variant of the Tecno Spark 7. For instance, the latest phone features 64GB internal storage like the Spark 7 kf6i or standard variant, but it has 2GB of RAM and Go Edition of the Android 11 OS like the Spark 7 pr651h or base variant.

Meanwhile, compared it to the Spark 7, Tecno Spark 8 doesn't introduce new features, neither does it has an impressive one. Still, while maintaining the 6.52-inch display and most of other features of the earlier phone, Tecno Spark 8 still manage to offer its own unique features; which help in differentiating it from the earlier phone.

The first noticeable and distinct feature of the Spark 8 is its unusually big back camera bump; which covers half of the top part of the phone back cover. Apart from that, another striking feature of the Spark 8 is its highly reflective back cover. In other words, instead of having a matte (non-reflective) finish like that of the Spark 7, the back cover of the Tecno Spark 8 sports a glossy finish. The back cover is also adorned with an inspired Stop At Nothing inscription.

A few changes have also occurred under the hood. Although Tecno Spark 8 features 2GB of RAM and Android 11 (Go Edition) like the base variant of the Spark 7 i.e. PR651H, but instead of 32GB internal storage, the phone is fitted with 64GB internal storage like the standard variant of the Spark 7 i.e KF6I. Also in place of Helio A25 CPU (that came with both variants of the Spark 7), Tecno Spark 8 is powered by the Helio P22 CPU. Nonetheless, both of these CPUs are entry-level octa-core processors and they both have almost the same processing powers.

However, Tecno Spark 8 still retain the 5000mAh battery of the earlier models, and it also lacks support for fast charging.

And like its battery capacity, the camera system on the Spark 8 is also like that of the Spark 7. Because Tecno Spark 8 features an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a 16-megapixel dual-lens back camera like the earlier model.

PRICE: The current price of the Tecno Spark 8 (KG6) is about 78,000 naira and it is available in three colour options of Turquoise Cyan, Atlantic Blue and Iris Purple.

Verdict: The main things that give Tecno Spark 8 an edge, over Spark 7, are its twice storage space, big yet sleeker camera module and all glassy appearance.

DESIGN:

Same Front As The Spark 7:

Apart from having the same build quality as the Spark 7, the front of the Spark 8 also looks exactly like that of the earlier phone. And it's because the latest phone also features the same 6.52-inch Drop-notched display and the same 20:9 aspect ratio. The 164.8x76.05x9.2mm dimensions of the latest Spark also shows that the phone has almost the same size as the Spark 7. Almost the same size because the dimensions also reveal that the latest Spark is a little less thicker than the Spark 7; which has a thickness of 9.5mm

But The Back Looks Different:

However, while the front of the Spark 8 looks like that of the Spark 7, the back of the latest phone looks different. Firstly, as i mentioned earlier, Tecno Spark 8 comes with a much bigger, squared shaped, camera bump; which occupies a larger area on the upper part of the phone's back cover. In fact, due to its large size, this camera bump also houses the latest phone's fingerprint reader. Surprisingly, the camera module doesn't appear bumpy or protrude from the back cover, in spite of its huge size.

Secondly, and different from the non-reflective (matte) finish of the Spark 7 back cover, the back cover of the Spark 8 sports an highly reflective or glossy finish. This back cover also has a big Stop At Nothing inscription; which runs from the lower right side to the upper right side of the phone's back cover.

The Positions Of Ports And Buttons Remain The Same:

Meanwhile, the positioning and arrangements of the ports and buttons on the Spark 8 are still like those of the Spark 7. For instance, you have microUSB port, microphone and 3.5mm audio jack on the bottom edge of the Spark 8 while the single speaker of the phone is placed directly above its front camera. Also on the left edge (close to the top) is the 3-in-1 SIM slot (and tray), while the Power button and Volume rockers are placed on the right edge. Also like that of the Spark 7, there is nothing on the top edge of the Tecno Spark 8.

Same 6.52-inch HD+ Drop-notch Screen:

Apart from having the same size, other screen attributes of the Tecno Spark 8 are exactly like those of the Spark 7. In other words, the 6.52-inch IPS-LCD display of the Spark 8 also features the same 720p or HD+ resolution of 1600x720, and it also has the same 20:9 aspect ratio, as i mentioned earlier. Which also implies that the screen has the same shaprness or pixel density of 269ppi. The pictures on this screen, like that of the earlier phone, are also clear and vivid. The colours and brightness are really good too.

Same Camera System:

Furthermore, Tecno Spark 8 is also fitted with an 8-megapixel front camera and 16-megapixel dual back camera like the earlier model. And while the main back camera is made up of the 16-megapixel sensor, the secondary back camera is fitted with a QVGA or AI sensor; and it assists the main sensor in taking clearer pictures in low-light environments.

Both the front and back cameras of the Spark 8 are also capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps (frame per seconds).  The back camera is also capable recording Slow-Motion videos at 120fps. 

Different CPU, But Similar Processing Power:

As stated earlier, the MediaTek Helio P22 CPU that powered Tecno Spark 8 is almost the same with the Helio A25 that came with the Spark 7. Though compared to the 1.8Ghz maximum clock speed of the Helio A25, Helio P22 has a slightly higher maximum clock speed of 2.0Ghz,  yet both of these CPUs are entry-level, 12nm, Arm Cortex-A55 Octa-core processors. Both of them are also equipped with the same PowerVR-GE8320 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).

Same RAM, Same OS But Twice Storage Space:

Also as a result of its low or 2GB of RAM, Tecno Spark 8 is running on the Go Edition of the Android 11 OS like the Spark 7 (PR651H). However, instead of HiOS 7.5, Tecno Spark 8 is pre-installed with the recent HiOS 7.6 custom UI. This phone also comes with features like Peek Proof and Kids Mode. The former prevents people siting beside you from seeing what's on your screen completely, while the latter enables you to prevent the children from using some applications on the phone.

And i said earlier, the 2GB of RAM of the Spark 8 is paired with 64GB storage. Still, the internal storage space can be expanded, up to 128GB, through microSD card.

Same Battery Capacity:

Apart from having 5000mAh battery and microUSB port like the Spark 7, Tecno Spark 8 also features the same 10W charging. In order words, Tecno Spark 8 doesn't support fast charging.

Therefore, with the phone's out of the box 10W charger, it will take you about four hours to fully charge the battery when it drops to one percent.
