Two years after Phantom 9 (AB7), Tecno has released another model of its flagship phone, and its called Phantom X or Phantom 10. It should be recalled that Phantom 9 was also released about a year and half after Phantom 8 (AX8).

However, due to two years gap between them, Tecno Phantom X (AC8) has a little in common with the Phantom 9. In fact, the main two things that the phone shares with the earlier model are Optical in-screen fingerprint reader and AMOLED panel, otherwise, Phantom X is in a class of its own.

Tecno Phantom X is quite a beautiful phone, it looks classy and exquisite. The phone spots a slim metallic chassis and has a good build quality. It also has a beautiful 6.7-inch edge-to-edge display (similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy S-series). The front and back of the Tecno Phantom X are also protected with Corning glasses. And while the earlier Phantom was fitted with an AMOLED display, the latest Phantom comes with a Super AMOLED display and it support 90Hz refresh rate.

As i mentioned earlier, the latest Phantom features an In-screen fingerprint reader like its predecessor. In other words, Tecno Phantom X does not have either of the rear-mounted or side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Still, like that of its predecessor, the In-Screen fingerprint reader of the Phantom X is not as snappy as the regular fingerprint reader. Therefore, you'll have to press and hold the in-screen fingerprint sensor for a few seconds before it can unlock your phone.

It should be noted that the selling points of the Phantom X are those things mentioned above, i.e., a beautiful design, good build quality, Super AMOLED display and In-screen fingerprint reader. Otherwise other features of this phones are like those of the midrange or slightly less expensive android phones.

For instance, though Phantom X comes with a dual-lens front camera and a triple-lens back camera, yet, the primary front camera of the phone has a 48-megapixel sensor like the single front camera of the recently unveiled Tecno Camon 17 Pro. Even, the 50-megapixel Triple-back camera of the Phantom X is lower than the 64-megapixel Quad-back camera of the Camon model.

Under the hood also, the processing power and inbuilt storage of the Phantom X are exactly like those of the Camon 17 Pro. In other words, Tecno Phantom X packed Helio G95 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. This phone is also running on the Android 11 OS with the latest version of the HiOS custom UI.

Also compared to that of the Camon 17 Pro, Phantom X has a slightly smaller battery of 4,700mAh, though the Phantom supports an higher fast charging rate of 33W.

Price And Design Colours:

Presently, the price of the Tecno Phantom X is around 265,000 naira. And it comes in two colour options of Van Gogh Starry Blue and Monet Summer

Phantom X Shares Looks With The Earlier Samsung Galaxy S Phones: 

Tecno Phantom X design is similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy S10+, but it looks more like the Galaxy S10+ actually. Because, in addition to its edge-to-edge Super AMOLED display, Phantom X also features a dual cut-out front camera like the Galaxy S10+. But the dual front camera of the Tecno phone is placed on the left side, instead of the right side.

Though as i mentioned before, this phone also has a metallic frame, glass front and back and good build quality, still the build quality is not as premium as those of the Samsung phones. In defence of that, Tecno Phantom X is not water or dust resistance certified.

Furthermore, The slightly bigger screen of the Tecno phone also features a different or taller aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and its volume rockers are also placed on the right edge (alongside power button) instead of left edge like those of the Samsung phones. 

Nonetheless, the positions and arrangements of other external attributes of the Phantom X are similar to those of the Samsung phones. For instance, you have a USB-C port, 3.5mm audio Jack, speaker grille and primary microphone on the bottom edge of the Phantom X, while the phone's secondary microphone and 3-in-1 SIM slot (and tray) are located on its top edge. Also, like the Samsung phones, Tecno Phantom X has antenna lines on its top and bottom edges.

But The Back Of The Tecno Phone Looks Quite Different:

While the front of the Phantom X looks like that of the Samsung S10+, the back of the phone looks quite different, yet prettier. On the top centre back of the phone is a tall, pretty-looking, rectangular-shaped camera bump; inside of which the triple rear camera of the phone are neatly arranged in a vertical manner. As a result of its prettier camera bump, the entire back of the Phantom X looks more appealing that of the Samsung Galaxy S10+.

And in addition to the usual camera LED flash light, the phone also comes with the Laser Autofocus, and it's placed right beside the top rear camera.

Apart from the camera bump and Tecno Phantom branding, there is nothing else on the back of the phone.

Beautiful Edge-To-Edge Display With Super Amoled Panel:

The striking feature of the Tecno Phantom X is its beautiful display. Apart from having an attractive curved edges, the Super AMOLED screen is also bright and clear. The images and colours on this screen look vibrant and more accurate when you compared them to those of other phones with IPS-LCD panels.

This screen also features a 1080p or Full-HD+ resolution of 2340x1080. Which also means that the 6.7-inch screen of the Phantom X has an higher pixel density of 385ppi. This, in turn, makes the pictures and videos on this display to look sharper and more detailed.

Phantom X Camera Systems:

While the primary front camera of the Phantom X is fitted with a 48-megapixel sensor, the secondary front camera has an 8-megapixel Ultra-wide sensor, and it has ability to capture 120 degree FoV (Field of View).

On the other hand, the triple rear camera of the Phantom X is made up of a 50-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel Ultra-wide angle sensor (same as the secondary front camera) and a 13-megapixel Telephoto sensor; which is meant for taking Bokeh pictures (or pictures with blurred backgrounds).

Furthermore, the primary back camera of the Phantom X is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 60fps (frame per second) and 4K videos at 30fps. It's also capable of recording 720p Slow Motion videos at 960fps.

Though the front camera of the phone is also capable of shooting 1080p and 4K videos but both are capped at 30fps. The front camera also has ability to record Slow Motion videos, but at a lower 240fps:

Processing Power And Storage Is Similar To Those Of The Slightly Less Expensive Or Midrange Phones:

Though, the Helio G95 that powered Phantom X is not a flagship processor, nonetheless, it's a top of the line midrange processor from the MediaTek. Helio G95 is a 12nm Octa-core processor with 2x Cortex-A76 Arm and a maximum clock speed of 2.05Ghz. And for its GPU, this chipset is fitted with the Mali-G76 MC4. 

As i said earlier, Tecno Phantom X has 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. Yet, in spite of its higher capacity, the inbuilt storage can still be expanded, via MicroSD card, up to 512GB.

Tecno Phantom X runs on the Android 11 OS (Operating System) alongside Tecno HiOS 7.6 custom UI. This phone also includes some features like language translation and Live Transcribe, the latter converts your speech to texts. Tecno also introduces its own Virtual Assistant to the Phantom X, and it's called Ella. Ella functionalities are similar to those of the Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby.

Though Not So Impressive Battery, But It's More Than Okay:

Though the 4,700mAh battery of the Phantom X is a little lower than the 5,000mAh battery that accompanied the likes of Tecno Camon 17 Pro and Infinix Note 10 (X693), but this battery is still more than okay.

Besides, the power efficient Super-AMOLED display of the Phantom X also makes this battery life to be on par with those of the two aforementioned phones. In addition, the 4700mAh battery can be fully juiced back in an hour (with the phone's 33W fast charger) when its drops to 1 per cent.
