Tecno Camon 17 (CG6) and Camon 17P (CG7) are the successors of the last year Tecno Camon 16 (CE7J) and Camon 16 Pro (CE8).
By the way, Tecno Camon 17P shouldn't be mistaken for Tecno Camon 17 Pro (CG8). Though, both of them look alike and share a few specs, yet, Tecno Camon 17 Pro is equipped with better cameras and processing power than the Camon 17P. Tecno Camon 17, on the other hand, look slightly different from its two siblings (above) and it is also smaller than them.

The front of the Camon 17 also look less attractive, compared to those of the Camon 17P and Camon 17 Pro. And this has to do, mainly, with the position of the hole-punch on the two phones' displays. In other words, while the dot-in (hole-punch) on the Camon 17 display is found at the usual top left corner, that of the Camon 17P (and Camon 17 Pro) display is placed at the top centre.

The display of the Camon 17P is also slightly bigger than that of the Camon 17. Because the size of the phone screen is 6.8-inch while that of the Tecno Camon 17 is 6.6-inch. Apart from its bigger size, the 6.8-inch screen of the Camon 17P also features a Full HD+ resolution, but the 6.6-inch screen of the Camon 17 has a regular HD+ resolution.
However, the display of the Tecno Camon 17 support 90Hz refresh rate while that of the Camon 17P maintain the regular 60Hz refresh rate.
Still, in addition to its bigger 1080p display, Tecno Camon 17P also comes with a 16-megapixel front facing camera which is also higher than the 8-megapixel on the front of the Camon 17.

Nonetheless, the back of the Camon 17 looks almost like that of the Camon 17P, they both have similar back camera bumps and identical back covers that have non-reflective or matte finish. Still, the back of the bigger phone is mounted with a 64-megapixel quad-lens camera while that of the Camon 17 is fitted with a 48-megapixel triple-lens camera. 
Also, unlike the Camon 17 that features a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and MicroUSB port, Tecno Camon 17P has a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a USB-C port. Nonetheless both of them are equipped with 5000mAh batteries and they also support 18W fast charging.

Under the hood, both Tecno Camon 17 and Camon 17P are powered by the Helio G85 processor. Both of them are also running on the latest Android 11 OS with the latest Tecno HiOS custom UI on top of it. But while the Camon 17 is fitted with 4GB of RAM, Camon 17P is equipped with 6GB of RAM, still both of them have the same internal storage capacities of 128GB. 

Price And Design Colours:
The current price of the Tecno Camon 17 is about 97,000 naira, while that of the Tecno Camon 17P is about 90,000 naira. Tecno Camon 17 comes in four colour options of Frost Silver, Tranquil Green, Deep Sea Green & Deep Blue Sea. And Tecno Camon 17P is available in three colour options of Frost Silver, Magnet Black & Spruce Green. 

Design And Displays:
The display of the Camon 17P looks more appealling (than that of the Camon 17) not only because its has its hole-punch placed at the top-centre, also because the hole-punch is smaller than that of the Camon 17 display.
Besides their different dot-in displays, these phones also have different aspect ratios. Tecno Camon 17P has an aspect ratio of 20.5:9, which makes the phone to appear a little narrower than the Camon 17 that features 20:9 aspect ratio.


And as i mentioned earlier, the 6.6-inch screen of the Camon 17 has an HD+ or 720p resolution of 1600x720 at 266ppi pixel density, while the 6.8-inch of the Camon 17P is equipped with a Full-HD+ or 1080p resolution of 2460x1080 at 395ppi pixel density. As a result of its higher resolution, therefore, the pictures and videos on the Camon 17P display look more detailed, vivid and clearer than the ones on the Camon 17 display.

Still, it's only the display of the Tecno Camon 17 that features 90Hz refresh rate. The higher refresh rate ensures your games, page scrolling and texts appear smoother on the Tecno Camon 7 display. And if you're not a fan of the higher refresh rate, you can choose the regular 60Hz refresh rate mode or Automatic refresh rate mode in the Display settings. It should be noted that the 90Hz or higher refresh rate mode consumes a little more power than the regular 60Hz refresh rate mode.

Turning them over, the back of the Tecno Camon 17 and that of the Camon 17P look almost the same. They both feature similar-looking back camera bump and their plastic back covers have the same non-reflective (matte) finish. Both of them also have an identical big Camon branding engraved on the lower left side of their backs.
However, Tecno Camon 17P doesn't have a rear-mounted fingerprint reader like the Camon 17, instead the phone features a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which also means that the phone's power button also doubled as fingerprint reader.

Tecno Camon 17P Is Fitted With Better Cameras:
Unlike the Camon 17 that has a triple-lens back camera, Tecno Camon 17P features a quad-lens back camera. In addition, the primary back camera of the bigger phone is also fitted with an higher megapixel sensor. In details, the quad-back camera of the Camon 17P comprises of a 64-megapixel Main sensor, 2-megapixel Macro sensor (for taking detailed pictures of close-up objects), a 2-megapixel Depth (Bokeh) sensor (for taking pictures with blurred backgrounds), and a QVGA or AI sensor; which is for taking bright pictures in low-light conditions.
On the other hand, the triple-lens back camera of the Camon 17 is made up of a 48-megapixel Main sensor, a 2-megapixel Macro sensor and a QVGA or AI sensor.
Also as i said earlier, there is an 8-megapixel camera on the front of the Tecno Camon 17, which is lower than the 16-megapixel on the front of Camon 17P.

Meanwhile, both the front and back cameras of the Tecno Camon 17 and Camon 17P are capable of shooting 2K videos at 30fps (frame per second). The two phone back cameras can also shoot slow motion videos at 240fps.

                 Same Cpu, Storage, Battery & OS, But Camon 17P Has Higher RAM:
Both Tecno Camon 17 and Camon 17P are powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 processor. Helio G85 is a mid-level, 12nm octa-core gaming processor. And it features 6x Cortex-A55 Arm and 2x Cortex-A75 Arm; which clocked at 2.0GHz. And for its GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), this chipset is fitted with the Mali-G52 MC2.
But while the Camon 17P is equipped with 6GB of RAM, Tecno Camon 17 features 4GB of RAM. Yet, both of them have the same internal storage capacities of 128GB. and their internal storage space can be expanded, up to 512GB, through MicroSD cards.
Tecno Camon 17 and Camon 17P are pre-loaded with the same software. As both of them are running on the latest Android 11 OS (Operating System) with the latest Tecno HiOS 7.6 custom UI on top of it.
And despite that Tecno Camon 17P features USB-C port, instead of MicroUSB port like the Camon 17, both phones are still fitted with the same 5000mAh batteries and they both support 18W fast charging. Therefore, it'll take you a little over two hours to fully charge these phones batteries when they drop to one per cent.
