Though Tecno Camon 17 (CG6) is the latest model of the Camon Series and the successor to the last year's Tecno Camon 16 (CE7J), yet, the latest phone still packed most of the features of  its predecessor. Nonetheless, Tecno Camon 17 still come with a few upgrades, but the phone also has one or two downgrades.

The few upgrades are Helio G85 processor, Android 11 OS, and 90Hz display. However, the size of the display has been reduced to 6.6-inch, the front facing camera has also been downgraded to an 8-megapixel (from the 16-megapixel on the Camon 16). The back cameras have also been reduced to triple-lens, from the quad-lens on the Camon 16.

Yet, as i mentioned earlier, Tecno Camon 17 packed most of the features of the earlier model. For instance and despite having triple-lens back camera, the primary back camera of the Camon 17 still has 48-megapixel sensor like that of the Camon 16. The phone also features the same 4GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage and 5000mAh battery as the Camon 16. Tecno Camon 17 also support 18W fast charging like the earlier phone.

And despite its slightly smaller size and 90Hz refresh rate, Camon 17 display also spot a hole-punch (Dot-in) like the 6.82-inch display of the Camon 16. But the back of the latest phone does not look like that of the earlier model (more on this later).

Meanwhile, other features of the Tecno Camon 16 that are also present on the latest phone are rear-mounted fingerprint reader, microUSB port, 3.5mm audio jack, bottom firing speaker and so on.

The price of the Tecno Camon 17 is currently about 97,000 naira and it's available in four colour options of Frost Silver, Tranquil Green, Deep Sea Green, Deep Sea Blue.

NOTE: From the above, it shows that Tecno Camon 17 comes in size and looks of the older Tecno Camon 15 (CD7). Yet the phone is equipped with most of the features of the last year Camon 16. Though, as i mentioned above, the phone still has a few upgrades.

Tecno Camon 17 Design:

The front of the Tecno Camon 17 looks like that of the Camon 16, and it's because the display of the phone also has a hole-punch like that of the earlier model. But as a result of its different 20:9 aspect ratio, the screen of the latest Camon appear slightly wide, yet the phone is sizable.

Though the phone also features a 720p IPS-LCD panel like its predecessor, however, due to its different aspect ratio, the screen has a different HD+ resolution of 1600x720. This also reveals that Tecno Camon 17 features the same screen size, aspect ratio and resolution as the older Tecno Camon 15. The screen also has the same 266ppi pixel density as that of the Camon 15.

But while the front of the Camon 17 looks like that of the Camon 16, the back of the latest phone looks different. The square-shaped back camera bump on the Camon 16 has been replaced with a tall rectangular-shaped camera bump on the Camon 17. Also, the bump is now placed on the upper left side of the latest phone instead of top-centre like that of the Camon 16.

In addition, Camon 17 has a a big reflective Camon branding engraved on the left side of its back, the design concept that's similar to those of the recent Tecno Spark 7 (KF6I) And Spark 7P (KF7J). And while the back cover of the Camon 16 has a smooth and glossy finish, that of the latest Camon has a matte or non-reflective finish.

Meanwhile, the positions of the ports and buttons on the Tecno Camon 17 are still like those on the Camon 16. Therefore, you have the volume keys and power button on the right edge of the phone while the dual nano SIM card slot is located on its left edge. The phone also has its microUSB port, microphone, 3.5mm audio jack and speaker placed on its bottom edge.

Same Primary Back Camera As The Earlier Models, But Lower Front Camera:

Unlike its predecessors i.e., Tecno Camon 16 and Camon 15, that feature quad-lens back cameras, Tecno Camon 17 has a triple-lens back camera. Yet, like those of the two phones, the primary back camera of the Camon 17 is also fitted with a 48-megapixel sensor.

The second back camera on the Camon 17 spot a 2-megapixel Macro sensor and it's meant for taking detailed pictures of close-up objects. The third back camera on this phone is made up of a QVGA or AI sensor, and it's meant for taking brighter pictures in low lights environments.

But, despite that Tecno returned the primary back camera of the earlier models to the Camon 17, the company didn't return the 16-megapixel front facing camera of the earlier phones. Instead, the latest phone is fitted with an 8-megapixel front camera.

Still, like those on the Camon 16, both the front and back cameras on the Tecno Camon 17 are capable shooting 2K videos at 30fps (frame per second). And the back camera is also capable of shooting slow motion videos at 240fps.

 

Faster Processor, Latest OS But Same RAM, Storage And Battery Capacity:

Despite that Helio G70 cpu that powered Tecno Camon 16 already packed enough processing power to run most of your apps and games successfully. Still, Tecno equipped the latest phone with a more powerful Helio G85 cpu, to ensure everything run smoothly on the Camon 17. By the way, Helio G85 is also a 12nm, mid-level octa-core gaming processor like the Helio G70.

Helio G85 also has 2x Cortex-A75 Arm that clocked at 2.0GHz like the Helio G70, but the 6x Cortex-A55 Arm of the cpu clocked at 1.8GHz instead of 1.7GHz like that of the Helio G70. And this makes Helio G85 to be slightly faster than the Helio G70. Still this chipset still has Mali-G52 MC2 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) as the Helio G70.

In addition to its better processing power, Tecno Camon 17 is also running on the latest Android 11 OS (Operating System) with the latest Tecno HiOS 7.6 custom UI on top of it. Yet, like the Tecno Camon 16, Camon 17 has 4GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. And the internal storage can also be expanded up to 512GB, through microSD card.

Meanwhile, the battery capacity of the Camon 17 remain as that of the Camon 16, because the phone is also fitted a 5000mAh battery, and it also support 18W fast charging like the earlier phone. Therefore, with Tecno Camon 17 18W fast charger, it'll take you a little above two hours to fully charge this phone from one per cent.
