Infinix Note 8 is a big, beautiful, all glassy and premium looking smartphone with up-to-date specs. Yet, just like the Note 7, the main issue i have with this phone is its low-rez display.
Looking at it from the front, Infinix Note 8 (X692) can be easily passed for
Infinix Zero 8. Because the Infinity-O display of the latest Note also features a dual-lens front camera like that of the Zero 8. In addition to that, the size of the Note 8 is almost the same with that of the Zero phone. In fact, the Note phone is just minute bigger than the Zero 8.
Yet, the back of the latest Note doesn't look like that of the Zero 8 neither does it look like that of its predecessor i.e.,
Infinix Note 7. This is because the back of the Note 8 is mounted with a different looking or rectangular shaped camera bump.
Still, Infinix Note 8 comes in size and shape of its predecessor. In other words, the latest Note also features 6.95-inch HD+ Infinity-O display and 20.5:9 aspect ratio like the Note 7. Also, like that of the earlier model, the power button of this phone also doubled as fingerprint reader.
Furthermore, and despite that Infinix Note 8 comes with a few upgrades, most of the features of the Note 7 are still present in the latest Note. Like the earlier model, for instance, infinix Note 8 also features 6GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, quad-lens back camera and support for 18W fast charging. Although this phone comes with dual-lens selfie camera, the primary front camera still has 16MP lens, like the single-lens front camera of the Note 7.
Meanwhile among the few upgrades or latest features of the Note 8 are its Helio G80 chipset, higher (64MP) primary back camera, the additional 2MP selfie lens, slightly higher 5200mAh battery, and USB-C port.
Unfortunately, the Infinix X-Pen which is the signature of the Infinix Note phones, which was missing on the Note 7, is still missing on the latest Note 8.
Price Of Infinix Note 8:
Infinix Note 8 comes in 3 colour options of Deepsea Luster, Iceland Fantasy and Silver Diamond. Currently, the price of the phone is about 98,000 Naira (KSh 21,499), and it's available in major phone outlets and online stores across the region.
However, unlike the Note 7 that came in two variants of 4GB/64GB (X690) and 6GB/128GB (X690B), Infinix Note 8 is currently available in a single variant of 6GB/128GB (X692).
By the way, if you're still interested in the affordable variant of the Infinix Note 8, you might want to check out Infinix Note 8i.
Infinix Note 8 Design:
As i mentioned earlier, Infinix Note 8 comes in size and shape of the Note 7. In fact, the only two things that distinguished Note 8's design from that of the Note 7 are its dual punch-hole display (which is as a result of the phone's dual selfie camera) and its rectangular shaped back camera bump (which is different from the round shaped back camera module of the Note 7).
Like that of the Note 7, for instance, the plastic chassis of the Note 8 also has a brilliant or all glassy finish, thereby making the phone to look premium and classy.
Also, except for the presence of the USB-C port which replaces micro-USB port on the Note 7, the arrangements and positioning of ports and buttons, on the Note 8, are exactly like those of the Note 7.
Therefore, you have the volume rockers and power button (which also doubled as fingerprint reader) on the right edge of the phone, while the 3-in-1 hybrid SIM slot (and tray) is located on its left edge.
And while you have the microphone, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C port and speaker, on the bottom edge of the Infinix Note 8, there is nothing on the top edge of the phone.
The above port arrangements also show that the slot for the Infinix X-pen (stylus); which was last seen on the
Infinix Note 6 is still missing on the Note 8.
Same 720p Display:
Despite Note 8's beautiful appearance, improved features and upgraded processor, its big 6.95-inch IPS-LCD screen still has the same HD+ resolution of 1640x720 like that of the Note 7. Which also means that the display has the same pixel density of 258ppi.
The above implies that the screen of the Note 8 has low sharpness as that of the Note 7.
Same RAM, Storage And OS As The Note 7, But Upgraded Processor:
Infinix Note 8 is powered by the Helio G80. Though, and technically speaking, this processor is slightly better than the Helio G70 that came with the Note 7. But for most of the users, it'll be difficult to notice differences in the performances of these two chipsets, because they both have almost the same processing powers.
For instance, Helio G80 is also an 12nm (with 2x Arm Cortex-A75) Octa-core processor like the Helio G70. And it also has the same maximum clock speed 2.0GHz.
But while the 6-core (6x) of the Helio G80 features 1.8GHz of the Arm Cortex-A55, the 6-core of the Helio G70 has 1.7GHz of the same Arm Cortex-A55.
Note 8 Offers A Slightly Better GPU And Clearer Audio Output:
Like their CPUs, there is a little difference between the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of the Note 8 and that of the Note 7. Because Infinix Note 8 has Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, while the earlier Note is fitted with the Mali-G52 MP2 GPU. Yet, you should expect a slightly better graphics performance from the Note 8, because its GPU has a faster clock speed of 950MHz (max), compared to that of the Note 7; which has a maximum gpu clock speed of 820MHz.
Furthermore, like the earlier model, Infinix Note 8 also comes with stereo speakers. And the sound is also powered by the same DTS Audio Engine. Yet, surprisingly, the audio output of the latest Note is more clearer than that of the Note 7.
Meanwhile, just like the Infinix Note 7 (X690B), Infinix Note 8 comes with 6GB of RAM, and the memory is also paired with 128GB internal storage. The inbuilt storage of the Note 8 can also be expanded, via microSD card, of up to one 1 Terabytes (TB).
And just like its predecessor, Infinix Note 8 is running on the Android 10 OS. But the phone is running the OS alongside the latest version of the company's custom UI, i.e., Infinix XOS 7.1.
Dual Front Camera And Higher Megapixels Quad Back Camera:
The four back camera setups on the Note 8 are almost the same with those on the Note 7, except that the primary back camera of the latest phone is fitted with a 64MP Sensor. Which is higher than the 48MP primary back camera of the earlier model.
Other three back cameras on the Note 8 have the same type sensor and the same number of megapixels as those on the Note 7. Therefore, and besides the 64MP primary lens, you also have a 2MP Depth Sensing lens (for taken pictures with Bokeh effects or blurred background), a 2MP Macro lens (for taking detailed pictures of close-up objects) and a 2MP QVGA lens (for taking clearer and brighter low-light pictures).
Though, unlike the Infinix Note 7, Infinix Note 8 features dual-lens front camera. Yet, the main front camera of the Note 8 still features 16MP lens, like the single front camera of the Note 7. While the second front camera of the Note 8 is made up of a 2MP Depth Sensing lens.
Meanwhile, both the front and back cameras of the Note 8 have ability to shoot 720p, 1080p and 2K videos at 30fps (frame per second). The back camera is also capable of shooting Slow motion video at 240fps.
Slightly Higher Battery Capacity:
As i said earlier, Infinix Note 8 comes with a USB-C port; which is better than the Micro-USB port on the Note 7. The phone is also equipped with a 5200mAh battery; which is a little higher than the 5000mAh battery of the Note 7.
Still, like its predecessor, Infinix Note 8 also support 18W fast charging. As a result, you should expect the latest Note phone to be fully charged in less than two and half hours.
