The recently introduced Pop 4 is the latest model of the Pop Series from the Tecno Mobile. Tecno Pop phones belong to the category of low-end smartphones in the market. Therefore, like others in this segment, Tecno Pop 4 packed basic components and has simple design.
Yet, compared to the earlier model, i.e., Tecno Pop 3, which has 1GB of RAM and 16GB inbuilt storage, Tecno Pop 4 offers 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage space. The latest model is also fitted with a slightly bigger 6.0-inch display and a much stronger 5000mAh battery.
Furthermore, and despite that both Pop 3 and Pop 4 share similar design, the design of the Pop 4 has a few modifications; which make the latest phone to look slightly better than its predecessor.
Still, like the earlier model, Tecno Pop 4 is a 3G phone i.e., this phone doesn't support 4G (LTE) network. And the slighlty bigger screen of the latest phone also features the same FWVGA resolutions as that of the Pop 3.
Inspite of its higher RAM and ROM, Tecno Pop 4 is still fitted with the MediaTek MT6580 cpu, the same processor that powered the earlier model. Though, unlike the earlier model, the latest phone is running on the recent Android 10 (Go Edition).
On the aspect of photography, the front and back camera setups of the Tecno Pop 4 remain as those of the Pop 3. In other words, Tecno Pop 4 is fitted with an 8MP front-facing camera and a 5MP single lens back camera.
Besides having the same camera setups, other features of the Tecno Pop 3, such as Face Unlock and fingerprinter reader, are also present in the Tecno Pop 4.
The current price of the Tecno Pop 4 is around KES 9,199 (35,750 naira & GHs 456), and it's available in colour options of Ice Lake Green and Dawn Blue.
Tecno Pop 4 Design And Display:
Like the Tecno Pop 3, Tecno Pop 4 has thick bezels at the top and bottom of its display. This phone's front-facing camera, speaker grille and LED Flash are also arranged (on its top bezel) in a manner that's similar to that of the Pop 3. Tecno Pop 4 also features the same 18:9 aspect ratio.
However, unlike that of the Pop 3, the left and right edges of the Tecno Pop 4's chassis are slightly curved. In addition to that, the four corners of the phone's screen are slightly curved also. These make the latest phone to appear sleeker than its predecessor.
Also as i mentioned earlier, Tecno Pop 4 offers a slightly bigger 6.0-inch display (compared to 5.7-inch display of the Pop 3), yet, the latest phone's screen features the same FWVGA (960x480) resolution as that of the earlier model. But due to its slightly bigger size, the screen of the Tecno Pop 4 has a little lower pixel density of 179ppi, compared to 188ppi of the earlier phone's display.
Apart from its front, the back of the Tecno Pop 4 also looks more attractive than that of the Pop 3. This is mainly due to the gradient finish of the latest phone's back cover. And secondly, Tecno Pop 4 is mounted with a better-looking, square-shaped camera module.
Yet, like the earlier model, Tecno Pop 4 is fitted with a single-lens 5MP back camera. And the position of its fingerprint reader is also similar to that of the Pop 3.
Furthermore, the positioning of the Tecno Pop 4's slots and ports are also similar to those of the Pop 3. For instance, the phone's volume rockers and power button are placed on the right edge, while its 3.5mm audio jack, MicroUSB port, microphone and speaker grille are located on the bottom edge.
Latest OS, Higher RAM And Storage, But Same Chipset:
Though Tecno Pop 4 is equipped with the same processor that came with the Pop 3, yet the memory and internal storage capacity of the latest phone are twice of those of the earlier model. In other words, and like the Tecno Pop 3, Tecno Pop 4 is also powered by the MediaTek MT6580 chipset.
MT6580 is a Cortex-A7 (28nm) Quad-Core processor, with the clock speeds of up to 1.3GHz. And for your light games and graphics related tasks, this phone is also fitted with the Mali-400 MP2 GPU.
Furthermore, Tecno Pop 4 is running on the lighter version of the recent Android 10 OS, i.e., Android 10 GO Edition, alongside Tecno's HiOS UI.
And higher than the 1GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt storage of the Tecno Pop 3, Tecno Pop 4 is equipped with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Yet, the internal storage space of the Pop 4 can be expanded, via MicroSD card, up to the same 64GB.
Same Front And Back Camera Set-up:
As i mentioned earlier, the front and back camera setups of the Pop 4 remain as those of the earlier model. This also means that the front camera of the Pop 4 is fitted with an higher megapixels lens than its rear camera. In other words, Tecno Pop 4 comes with an 8MP front facing camera and a slightly lower 5MP back camera.
Meanwhile, the front and back cameras of the Pop 4 are capable of shooting 720p videos at 60fps.
A Much Stronger 5000mAh Battery:
Apart from its better look, higher RAM and spacious storage, another advantage of the Tecno Pop 4 (over Pop 3) is its much stronger battery capacity. Because Tecno Pop 4 is equipped with 5000mAh battery, which is quite a leap from the 3500mAh battery of the Pop 3.
Therefore, with normal usage and casual internet surfing, you should expect Pop 4's battery to last more than 36 hours. But as expected of the phone that doesn't support fast charging, it might take you over 3 hours to fully charge this phone when the battery dropped to one percent.
