Infinix Smart 5 (X657) Price, Review And Specifications.

On the camera aspect, Infinix Smart 5 features 8MP front-facing camera; which is a little higher than the 5MP of its predecessor. The latest phone is also fitted with a dual-lens back camera, though, the primary back camera still has 8MP lens, like the Single-lens back camera of the Smart 4.
Under the hood, Infinix Smart 5 packed a MediaTek processor that's less powerful than that of its predecessor, yet the memory of the new phone and its internal storage space are twice of those of the earlier model.
In other words, Infinix Smart 5 is equipped with 2GB of RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, but the phone is powered by the less powerful MediaTek MT6580 CPU.
Besides having higher RAM and roomier internal storage than its predecessor, Infinix Smart 5 is also fitted with a much stronger 5000mAh battery.
And for its Operating System, Infinix Smart 5 is pre-installed with the Android 10 (Go Edition) and Infinix XOS 7.0.
Unlike its predecessor, however, Infinix Smart 5 X657 doesn't support 4G (LTE) network, i.e., the latest Infinix Smart is a 3G phone. And it also lacks Google Assistance button like the earlier model. Still, other features of the Infinix Smart 4, such as Face Unlock and Fingerprint reader, are still present on this phone.
Presently, the price of the Infinix Smart 5 is around 43,500 naira (Ksh 9,695 & GHc 505), which is about 2,000 naira higher than the current price of the Smart 4. And the latest phone is available in three colour options of Ice Blue, Midnight Black And Quetzal Cyan.
NOTE: As i said earlier, there is also Smart 5 X657C; which has a better MediaTek chipset or Helio A20 CPU, and it also support 4G (LTE) networks.,
Infinix Smart 5 Design And Display:
Infinix Smart 5 measures 166.4x73.4x8.75mm and weigh 183g. This shows that, though the latest phone is slightly thicker, yet, it has the same weight and almost the same dimension as the Smart 4.
Also i mentioned earlier, the front of the Smart 5 looks like that of the Smart 4, and it's because the latest phone features the same aspect ratio, same screen size and same resolution. In other words, Infinix Smart 5 features 20:9 aspect ratio, and it's also fitted with a 6.6-inch Drop-notched display. The IPS-LCD screen also has an HD+ resolution of 1600x720, at a pixel density of 266ppi.
Infinix Smart 5's Back Cover, Ports And Buttons:
Though, the positions of Smart 5's rear mounted fingerprint reader and the phone's branding are similar to those of the Smart 4.
But the latest phone is mounted with a different, rectangular shaped, back camera module. Also, the Main speaker of the Smart 5 is placed on its bottom edge, unlike that of the Smart 4 which is found below its back cover.
And because this big camera module occupies more space on the back of the latest phone, the phone's fingerprint scanner seems to be close to its dual-lens back camera. Nonetheless, the cut-gem design and different looking camera module of the Smart 5 make the back of the phone to look more attractive than that of the Smart 4.
Meanwhile, the arrangement of ports and buttons on the Smart 5 is a little bit different from that of the Smart 4. For instance, while the 2 Nano-SIM slots (and the SD card slot) of the Smart 4 are found under its back cover, Infinix Smart comes with an Hybrid SIM tray; which is located on the left edge of the phone.
And as i mentioned earlier, the Google Assistant button, that's found on the right edge of the Smart 4 is missing on the latest Smart phone. Which means you only have Power button and Volume rockers on the right edge of the Smart 5. Also unlike the Speaker of the Smart 4, which is located towards the end of its back cover, the Speaker of the Smart 5 is found on its bottom edge, alongside 3.5mm audio Jack, microphone and micro-USB port.
Performance, Storage And OS:
Infinix Smart 5 is pre-installed with the Go Edition (lighter version) of the recent Android 10 OS. And the Android OS is running alongside Infinix XOS 7.0 (Dolphin) Custom UI.
But while the earlier Smart 4 is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 (M6761), Infinix equipped the latest Smart 5 with the less powerful and entry-level MediaTek MT6580 chipset. MT6580 is a Cortex-A7 (28nm) Quad-Core processor, and it has maximum clock speed of 1.3GHz.
This chipset is also fitted with the ARM Mali-400 MP1 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).
Compared to PowerVR GE8320 GPU that's found on the Smart 4, Mali-400 GPU is suitable for light games and other simple graphics related tasks.
Nonetheless, Infinix compensate the low-end chipset of the Smart 5 with Higher RAM and ROM. In other words, and compared to 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage of the Smart 4, Infinix equipped Smart 5 with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. And the inbuilt storage capacity can also expanded, via microSD card, up to 64GB.
Furthermore, Infinix Smart 5 comes with an 8MP front-facing camera, which is higher than the 5MP of the earlier model. The latest phone also comes with dual Screen Flash, embedded on both sides of the Drop notch.
Meanwhile, both the front and back cameras of the Smart 5 are capable shooting 1080p videos at 30fps (frame per second).
Though the earlier Smart 4 is fitted with a sufficient 4000mAh battery, yet Infinix still equipped Smart 5 with a stronger 5000mAh battery. But like the earlier model, Infinix Smart 5 doesn't support fast charging. So, it might take you over three hours to fully charge this phone from one percent.

This is the latest model of the Infinix Smart series; an entry-level or low-budget phone from the Infinix Mobility. And it's also the successor to the Infinix Smart 4.
Basically, Infinix Smart 5 is available in two variants. The first one is the Infinix Smart 5 (X657); which is the standard variant and the focus of this review. The second one is the Infinix Smart 5 (X657C); the better equipped variant.
But being the better equipped variant does not necessarily imply that Smart 5 (X657C) is equipped with a much better hardware (or software) than the standard variant or Smart 5 (X657). It's just that the X657C is powered by a faster and more recent chipset. And it also support 4G (LTE) netwoks.
Except for those two things, all other features of the X657C, including design, are still similar to those of the X657.
Meanwhile, due to its cut-gem design and rectangular shape camera module, the back of the Infinix Smart 5 (X657) looks more appealling than that of the Smart 4.
Yet, the front of the Smart 5 looks exactly like that of the earlier model. And it's because the latest phone features 6.6-inch drop-notched display and 20:9 aspect ratio as the earlier model.
