Hot 9 Play (X860) is the recently introduced entry-level smartphone from the Infinix Mobility. This phone is also a stripped-down variant of the Infinix Hot 9; the latest model of the Infinix Hot Series.
Though, compared to the 6.6-inch screen of the Hot 9, Infinix Hot 9 Play features a bigger 6.82-inch display. Which means that the size of this phone's display is almost the same as that of the more expensive Infinix Note 7. Still, unlike that of the Note 7, or Hot 9, that has a cut-out hole (Infinity-O), the screen of the Hot 9 Play features a waterdrop notch.
Being a stripped-down variant of the of the Hot 9, and also an entry-level smartphone, Infinix Hot 9 Play is powered by a less powerful Helio A22 MediaTek chipset, compared to the Helio A25 that's found on the standard Hot 9. This phone is also running on the Go Edition of the Android 10 OS. Also, unlike the Hot 9 that is mounted with a Quad-lens back camera, Infinix Hot 9 Play features a Dual-lens back camera. Though the Main shooter still features the same 13MP lens like that of the Infinix Hot 9.
Still, this phone retain the same 8MP front-facing camera of the Hot 9 and it also features 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage space like the base variant of the Hot 9.
Apart from having bigger display than the Hot 9, Infinix Hot 9 Play is also equipped with a stronger, 6000mAh battery capacity.
This phone attracts a slightly lower price of about 51,990 naira (GHs 625 a nd KES12,800), compared to the 54,000 naira of the base of variant of the Hot 9 i.e, Infinix Hot 9 X655.
Meanwhile, Tecno Spark 5 Air, which cost about 49,990 Naira, shares identical design and specs with the Hot 9 Play, this Tecno phone even offers a larger 7.0-inch display, but it has a little lower battery capacity of 5000mAh.

And like the Hot 9, Hot 9 Play comes in the same colour options of Quetzal Cyan, Midnight Black, violet and Ocean Wave.
Design And Display Of The Hot 9 Play:
Infinix Hot 9 Play measures 171.8x78x8.9mm and weigh 209g. Though this heavier weight is expected of a phone with this size, yet the phone's thickness is almost the same as that of the Infinix Hot 9.
Apart from having bigger display, Hot 9 Play also features a taller 20.5:9 aspect ratio; which caused the phone to appear slender and also make it look sleeker. And the slender frame enables this bigger phone to be held and operated with one hand to an extent.
To an extent in the sense that, you'll still need the assistant of the second hand, once a while, especially when there is need to reach the top of the display.
And due to its taller aspect ratio (and bigger display), this phone is basically good for watching HD movies, YouTube videos and playing games.
The 6.8-inch screen of the Hot 9 Play features 1640x720 pixels; which is the same as that of the Infinix Note 7's display. But due to its slightly bigger size of 6.95-inch, the Note 7's display has a pixel density of 257ppi which is less than the 262ppi of the Hot 9 Play's. In other words, Infinix Hot 9 Play's display is more sharper than that of the Note 7.
On the other hand, and despite its lower size, the 6.6-inch screen of the standard Hot 9 has almost the same sharpness as that of the Hot 9 Play, and this is due to the slightly difference in their HD+ resolutions.
Back Of The Hot Play And Ports:
The back panel of the phone (which is made of plastic), and its design pattern, is similar to that of the Hot 9. You also have the same rectangular-shaped camera module which houses the phone's dual-lens camera. Also located inside the module is the Triple LED-flash; which is found on the right side of the module while the two cameras are placed on the left side.
The phone's rear mounted fingerprint reader and Infinix branding are also located in the positions that are similar to those of the Hot 9. And as usual, the MicroUSB port is found on the bottom edge of the phone, alongside the speaker grille, 3.5mm audio jack and microphone.
The volume rockers and power button are found on the phone's right edge, while the Hybrid Dual-SIM tray is located on the left edge.
Hardware And Software:
Infinix Hot 9 Play is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset; which features an Arm Cortex-A53 dual-core processor, and it has a maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz.. Though, this is the same processor that powered the last year's Infinix Hot 8, but it is slightly less powerful, compared to the recently introduced Helio A25; which comes with the Infinix Hot 9.
Apart from having lesser processing power, Infinix Hot 9 Play also lacks DTS Sound like the Hot 9, instead, it features the usual Dirac Sound. Still, like the Hot 9, even Hot 9 Pro, Infinix Hot 9 Play is fitted with the same IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU (Graphics processing Unit).
This phone is fitted with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage capacity. And its internal storage capacity can be expanded through Micro-SD card of up to 256GB.
As i mentioned earlier, Infinix Hot 9 Play is running on the Go Edition of the Android 10 OS (Operating System), with the Infinix XOS Dolphin 6.2.
Same 8MP Selfie Lens But Dual-Lens Back Camera:
Again, While other variants of the Infinix Hot 9 features Quad-lens back camera, Hot 9 Play is mounted with a dual-lens back camera. Still, the primary camera of this phone is made up of 13MP lens like that of the base variant (X655) of the Hot 9, while the second camera, on the back of the Hot 9 Play, is made up of a QVGA lens.
Despite its lower number of rear lenses, Infinix Hot 9 Play still features the same 8MP front facing camera like the other variants of the Hot 9. And the Selfie camera is capable of shooting 720p video at 30fps (frame per second), while the rear lens is capable of shooting 1080p video at 30fps.
And like many other smartphones with this type of screen-notch, Infinix Hot 9 Play doesn't have Notification LED, instead, it comes with the Screen Flash.
Stronger 6000mAh Battery:
Compared to the 5000mAh battery of the Infinix Hot 9, Hot 9 Play comes with a stronger 6000mAh battery capacity. And this is necessary, considering the phone's larger display.
Though, like the Hot 9, this phone also comes with the Battery Lab power management, yet, it also doesn't support fast charging like its more equipped sibling. Therefore it might take you close to 4 hours to fully charge this phone from zero per-cent.
