Due to its ample size, the latest Infinix Note 7 ought to be regarded as phablet. Though the big size is well concealed by the phone's 20.5:9 aspect ratio; which makes the phone to appear narrower or longer, thereby giving one an impression that Note 7 is smaller than its actual size. Still, it's a little uncomfortable to hold and operate Infinix Note 7 with one hand.
NOTE: Infinix also unveiled Note 7 Lite alongside Note 7. But Note 7 Lite comes with a smaller 6.6-inch display, and it also comes with Helio P22 cpu and lesser features.
Because this review is mainly about the Infinix Note 7, you can learn further about the Infinix Note 7 Lite.
Meanwhile, and compared to the earlier Note phone, Note 7 sport a sleeker design and trendy features such as Infinity-O display, quad-lens rear camera and a distinct back camera module. Infinix Note 7 is also also preloaded with the Android 10 O.S. and equipped with a bigger 5000mAh battery capacity.
Furthermore, the latest Infinix Note is also fitted with the recent and slightly more powerful Helio G70 chipset, compared to the Helio P35 processor that's found on the previous Note.
However, instead of having Amoled panel like the earlier Note 6. The 6.95-inch display of the Note 7 is equipped with an IPS-LCD panel, and the screen also feature a lower HD+ resolution. Still,
Some of the features of the earlier Note 6 such as 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage space and 16MP selfie lens, are also present in the Note 7. Though, the 4GB/64GB (X690) is the base variant of the Note 7, because the standard variant (X690B) of the latest Note phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. And the price of both variants are currently 81,500 and 97,000 Naira respectively.
Merit And Demerit of the Infinix Note 7, Compared to the Note 6:
Merit:
-Trendy Features And Sleeker design.
-Quad-lens and Better back Camera.
-Sufficient Battery Capacity.
Demerit:
-Ample Display with Lesser screen resolution.
-Same Selfie Camera Lens.
-No-Stylus (X-Pen) And Slot.
Sleek Design With Circular Back Camera Module:
Asides its bigger 6.95-inch display, Infinix has also discarded the traditional top and bottom bezels (that used to come with the earlier Note phones) for a bezel-less display concept, in the latest Note phone.
In other words, Infinix Note 7 display neither has bezels nor screen-notch safe for the presence of a small punch-hole which houses the phone's 16MP front facing camera.
Although, the back of the Note 7 phone is also made of polycarbonate (glassy material) like that of its predecessor, the latest Note features a big, circular camera module, which gives the back of the phone a distinct look, compare to those of its predecessors. Meanwhile, the phone's quad-lens camera are arranged in a square-manner inside the camera module, the quad-flash are also found directly below the four cameras.
Another thing that differentiate Infinix Note 7 from its peers, and earlier Notes, is the location of its fingerprint reader. Instead of having its physical fingerprint scanner placed on its back, the latest phone's fingerprint reader is embedded in its power button, which is located on the right side of the phone.
And slightly above the fingerprint reader/power button is the volume rockers. Furthermore, the phone's hybrid or 3-in-1 SIM tray is found on its left edge.
There is nothing on the top edge of the phone, still, like the earlier Note, you'll find the 3.5mm audio jack, Micro-USB port and speakers on the bottom edge of the Note.
But unlike in the previous Note phones, Stylus or X-pen (and its Slot), which is the signature of the Infinix Note phones, is missing on the bottom edge of the Note 7. Perhaps, it'll be available in yet-to-be announced Pro version of the Note 7.
Meanwhile, Infinix Note 7 has dimensions of 173.4x79x8.8mm and weigh 206g. The phone is also available in three colour options of Forest Green, Aether Black and Bolivia Blue.
Ample IPS-LCD Display But Low HD+ Resolution:
Compare to the 6.0-inch of Note 6, Note 7 comes with a much bigger 6.95-inch screen, though this is expected as smartphones' displays continue to increase in size. And it's also understandable that the Infinix couldn't return the Amoled panel to the huge display of the Note 7.
However, i wonder why the company would equipped the unusually big screen of the latest Note 7 with an HD+ resolution, considering the fact that the smaller displays of the earlier Note phones have always featured FHD resolutions.
An HD+ (1640x720) resolution on the 6.95-inch display of the Note 7 means that the screen has a pixel density of 257ppi. This implies that the Note 7 display is even less sharper than the 6.6-inch display of the Note 7 Lite. Because Note 7 Lite display has an higher pixel density of 266ppi; which often accompanied the displays of most of the budget and entry-level smartphones from Infinix Mobility.
MediaTek Helio G70 Chipset:
Infinix Note 7 also features MediaTek chipset, like the earlier phone. But instead of having Helio P35 processor, Note 7 is fitted with the recent and more powerful Helio G70 chipset.
Though Helio G70 is also an octa-core processor like the earlier one, it even has a slightly lower maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz. But Helio G70 chipset includes a pair of powerful Cortex-A75 CPU, while Helio P35 only comes in all Cortex A53 CPUs.
Because Helio G70 was design for gaming, it also features a better Mali-G52 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit); which has higher clock speeds of up to 820MHz.
And for a better sound output, the stereo speakers of the Infinix Note 7 features DTS audio engine, instead of DIRAC audio that came with the Note 6.
RAM, Internal Storage And Android 10 O.S:
Like i mentioned earlier, Infinix Note 7 comes with either 4GB of RAM or 6GB of RAM. And while the 4GB of RAM variant is equipped with 64GB internal storage space, the 6GB of RAM variant is equipped with twice storage capacity of 128GB. Irrespective of your choice of variant, Infinix Note 7's internal storage space can be expanded, via microSD card, of up to 2TB (Terabyte).
Concerning its Operating System, Infinix Note 7 is preloaded with the Android 10 O.S., which is running alongside Infinix XOS 6.1.0 custom UI. Note 7 also includes some important features such as Dark Theme; which reduces eye strain or fatigue, especially while reading at night.
Quad-Lens Back Camera And Same Selfie Lens:
Aside having quad-lens back camera (compare to the triple-lens back camera of the Note 6), the Main back camera of the latest Note phone is also fitted with an higher megapixels sensor. In details, the quad-lens back camera of the Infinix Note 7 is made up of 48MP main lens, 2MP macro lens, 2MP Depth sensing lens, and 2MP dedicated video camera (for shooting low light videos).
And speaking of the front camera, Infinix returns the same 16MP f/2.0 selfie lens, of the previous Note phone, to the latest one.
But due to the implementation of punch-hole, Infinix Note 7 doesn't have Notification LED, instead, it comes with Screen Flash. And there is a very small LED, embedded in the top right edge, which indicates while charging the phone.
Also, both the front and back cameras of the Infinix Note 7 are capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps (frame per seconds).
Sufficient Battery Capacity:
Taking into consideration its ample display, Infinix equipped Note 7 with a big 5000mAh battery. And this is to ensure that the latest phone last longer on a single charging. In addition, the low HD+ resolution of the phone's display will also have a positive effect on its battery life. By the way, Infinix Note 7 also support Quick charging like the earlier Note phones.
