Both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play are the Motorola's entry level smartphones, and they are also the successors to the 2018 Moto E5 and Moto E5 Play respectively. It should be noted that both phones were released at different periods of time, in other words, while Moto E6 has been around since July, Moto E6 Play was recently unveiled in October 2019.
Nonetheless, both of them have similar looks and they also feature 5.5-inch display, 2GB of RAM, 5-MP front camera, 13-MP single rear camera, 3000mAh battery capacity and so on.
However, instead of having Qualcomm SD processor like the Moto E6, Moto E6 Play features MediaTek CPU, still, Moto E6 Play offers twice storage space and it also looks slightly better than the Moto E6.
Both Feature Same Dated Design, But Moto E6 Play Looks Better:
Though both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play have a dated design; which is as a result of their 18:9 aspect ratios and the presence of thick bezels at the top and bottom of their 5.5" displays. Still, out of the two phones, Moto E6 look is less attractive. And it's because the phone's bottom bezel (chin) is thicker than that of the Moto E6 Play, even the Motorola inscription on the chin did not help the phone's look.
Whereas, the equal size top and bottom bezels of the Moto E6 Play, which is also devoid of the Motorola inscription, makes it a simple, yet, better looking phone than the Moto E6.
As expected of the phones in this segment, both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play comes with plastic frames and polycarbonate (glassy material) backings.
Each of them also features single lens back camera; which is placed on the top right corner of their backs. But while the single back camera lens and LED flash of the Moto E6 are arranged in a vertical manner, those of the Moto E6 Play are arranged in an horizontal manner, and they are also found inside an enclosure (unlike those of the Moto E6).
The rear-mounted fingerprint scanners of both phones are also located in a similar spots (which is not far from cameras), and as usual, the company's initial M is also located inside the scanner.
Moto E6 Play is also the flatter and lighter of the two phones, which is as a result of its 146.5x70.9x8.3mm dimensions and 140g weight, compare to the Moto E6's 149.7x72.3x8.6mm dimensions and 159g weight.
And like the earlier models, both phones also feature micro-USB port and 3.5mn audio jack, and the two also comes design colours of Blue and Black.
NOTE: If you want another variant of the affordable Moto E6 series phones, but with trendy look and features, such as bezel-less, 6.1" Waterdrop-notch display, 19.5:9 (taller) aspect ratio and dual-lens back camera, you might want to check out Motorola Moto E6 Plus. It costs about N47,000 (GHc 693 & KSh 13,000).
Performance:
Both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play are pre-installed with Android 9 Pie O.S. (Operating System).
But instead of having Qualcomm SD (Snapdragon) chipset like the Moto E6 (and the previous Moto E5 and Moto E5 Play), Moto E6 Play features MediaTek MT6739 CPU; a low level, Cortex A53 quad-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.5Ghz, which also features PowerVR GE8100 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).
On the other hand, and compare to the Qualcomm SD425 cpu of the earlier Moto E5 and Moto E5 Play, Moto E6 features Qualcomm SD435 chipset.
Though, like the earlier one, SD435 is a low level processor with the same 28nm and the same maximum clock speed of 1.4GHz, yet, the octa-core processor is slightly better than quad-core SD425 of the previous phones. It's also better than the Moto E6 Play MediaTek quad-core processor (above). And for its GPU, Moto E6 makes use of the Adreno 505.
Meanwhile, both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play feature 2GB of RAM, but while Moto E6 is fitted with 16GB internal storage, Moto E6 Play has twice storage capacity of 32GB. Nonetheless, Both phones' built-in storage capacities can be expanded, via microSD Cards, up to 256GB..
Again, the fancy looking Motorola Moto E6 Plus (mentioned above) offers higher 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage space, with a better Helio P22 octa-core cpu.
Same Camera Set Up And Lens As The Previous Models:
Also found on the earlier Moto E5 and Moto E5 Play, Motorola returns the same 5-MP (f/2.2) front camera to both Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play. And each of the phones' single back camera also fitted with 13-MP (f/2.2 or f/2.0) lens.
The Back cameras of the Moto E6 and E6 Play are also capable of shooting 1080p videos @ 30fps (frame per second). And these cameras also feature HDR; for brighter and colourful pictures.
Display And Battery:
The 5.5-inch displays of Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play are equipped with IPS-LCD panel, and they also have the same HD+ resolution of 1440x720. Which also means that each of the screens has a pixel density of 295ppi.
In other words, the 5.5-inch screens of Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play are sharper enough for your HD videos and pictures. And due to their 18:9 aspect ratio, the displays of the Moto E6 and Moto E6 Play appear a little wider than those of the recent phones that have 19.5:9 or 20:9 aspect ratio.
Therefore, the 5.5-inch display of the two phones give you a wide view of the web pages, compare to those displays that have 19.5:9 and 20:9 aspect ratio.
Though, the 3000mAh battery capacity of the Moto E6 and E6 Play is unimpressive one, still, considering the phones' average screen sizes, their HD+ displays and power efficient entry level processors, a fully charged battery of the Moto E6 or E6 Play, will last more than a day, with normal usage and casual internet browsing.
