The new Itel S15 and S15 Pro are the successors to the last year's Itel S33. And, like the Itel S33, the new phones also belong to the Itel S Series; which are known for their better Selfie camera compare to the rest of the Series from the Itel-mobile.
Except for the unique design and better selfie camera, the cheaper Itel S15 comes with all the specs of the previous Itel S33, while the Itel 15 Pro shares only battery life and Main rear camera with the previous phone.
Itel S15 Shares Specs With The Itel S33:
In details, Itel S15 can be seen as the Itel S33 in a new body with a slightly better selfie camera. Because the new phone features the same dual camera, same RAM and ROM, same processing power and same battery life, as the Itel S33. Itel S15 also features rear-mounted fingerprint reader and Face Unlock, like the previous phone.
Itel S15 Pro Offers Better Specs:
Meanwhile, apart from having the same battery life, same Main rear camera and similar fingerprint reader spot, Itel 15 Pro, has nothing else in common with the previous Itel S33. This is because the Itel 15 Pro is equipped with triple rear camera, better RAM and ROM, better processing power and better selfie camera. Also, out of the three phones, Itel 15 Pro is the only one that offers 4G LTE.
New and Refreshing Design:
Like the Itel S33 that came with a big (6.0-inch) screen, each of the new phones also features a big 6.1-inch display, but the new phones comes with a distinct and attractive design. First, the traditional bezel, found above the Itel S33 display, has been replaced with the waterdrop-notch; which now houses the phones' 16MP selfie camera. Also due to the implementation of the recent 19.5:9 aspect ratio, the new phones appear more sleeker and slender than the previous Itel S33; which features 18:9 aspect ratio.
Moving to the back of the two phones, the Itel S15 comes with a vertically arranged dual back camera and a fingerprint reader. Though, Itel S15 Pro also features a fingerprint reader, but the more equipped phone has a triple rear camera and its backing is also made of glass-like material (Polycarbonate) instead of plastic, like the other two phones.
Furthermore, you'll find only earpiece at the top of the selfie camera, this is because the new phones come with neither Screen Flash nor LED notification.
On the left edge of each of the phones is the SIM Tray slot, and on the top edge is the Audio jack. While the Volume rocker and Power Button are located on the right edge, the microphone, speaker and Micro-USB port are found at the bottom edge of the phones.
Design Colour and Price:
Itel S15 Pro comes in only one colour of gradient Purple, while the Itel S15 comes in three different colours of Black, Red and Blue. The price of the Itel S15 is about 36,500 Naira, while that of the Itel S15 Pro is about 31,500. And two of them are available in various phone outlets, retail shops and online stores across the country.
VERDICT: It's all about the design;
At 31,500 Naira, you'll definitely come across other smart phones that shares similar specs with the Itel S15 in the market. But currently, to come across a smartphone with that kind of premium design or look, and at that price, won't be an easy task.
The same thing can be said of the Itel S15 Pro, especially when it offers 2GB of RAM, 32GB Internal storage, and 4G LTE.
Even the low version of the Infinix Hot 7 (X624), i.e., the one of 37,500 Naira, which has 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM, does not support 4G. It also features a wide screen-notch and a lower megapixels front-facing Camera. Nevertheless, if you prefer a slightly clearer display, better 4000mAh battery and better back camera (though single lens), i would suggest you go for Infinix Hot 7, with additional 1,000 Naira though.
NOTE: with 35,500 Naira, Tecno Spark 3 offers the same specs of the Infinix Hot 7, but with the slightly less battery size of 3500mAh.
Meanwhile, below are the detailed review of the Itel S15 and S15 Pro.
6.1-inch Waterdrop-notch Display:
Itel-Mobile says the 6.1-inch waterdrop-notch screen of the ltel S15 and Itel S15 Pro is an HD+ display, unfortunately, this cannot be ascertained, because there is no detailed information on the actual resolution of the new phones displays.
But, by comparing the new phones displays to that of the another budget phone i.e. Infinix Hot 7, that has real HD+ (1520x720) pixels, i would say that each of the new Itel-mobile phones' screen is another FWVGA+ display, just like that of the previous S33 and the recent P33 and P33 Plus, which are also from the Itel Mobile.
However, instead having 960x480 pixels, the FWVGA+ resolution is now 1040x480, this changes in resolution, is as a result of the implementation of the waterdrop-notch and the 19.5:9 aspect ratio. In short, when it comes to screen clarity, the new Itel S15 and Itel S15 Pro displays (with 197ppi) are sharper than that of the previous Itel S33 (179ppi), but don't except these displays to be as detailed as that of the Infinix Hot 7 (268ppi).
Processor and Software:
The Itel S15 and its predecessor, Itel S33, are powered by the same CPU, i.e., the new phone features the same Quad-Core Mediatek processor, with the same maximum clock speed of 1.3GHz. Also like the Itel S33, the Itel S15 offers 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage space.
On the other hand, Itel S15 Pro comes with a slightly better Mediatek processor; an Octa-Core chipset with more faster clock speeds of up to 1.6GHz.
But, compare to the 1GB RAM of the Itel S15 and S33, Itel S15 Pro offers higher 2GB of RAM, and it also comes with a more roomy 32GB internal storage space; which is twice of that of the Itel S15.
Nevertheless, the internal storage capacity of both phones can be increased through MicroSD card, up to 128GB.
Concerning their Operating System, both Itel S15 and Itel S15 Pro feature Android 9 Pie, but it seems the S15 is preloaded with the Go Edition of the O.S.
Itel S15 Pro offers triple rear camera:
While the Itel S15 features Dual rear-camera, like the previous Itel S33, the Itel S15 Pro is fitted with three, rear-facing cameras which the Itel-mobile referred to as the AI Triple Camera. Despite the difference in their back camera set up, each of the new phones still maintain the same 8-megapixel Main rear camera that came with their predecessor. The second lens is the depth sensing camera, while the third camera (a QVGA lens), found only on the Itel S15 Pro, is for low-light shots.
Better Selfie Camera:
Slightly higher than the 13-megapixel lens of the Itel S33, each of the new phones comes with a 16-megapixel front facing camera, and it's located inside the waterdrop-notch. Because of its large 2.0um lens, the front-facing camera guarantees a much clearer sefies with good details. And like the Itel S33, both phones also feature Face Unlock and Smart Selfie (AI Face Beauty), though the version of the AI Face Beauty is now 3.0; which is better than version 2.0 that came with the previous phone.
Same 3000mAh returns:
Meanwhile, like their predecessor, both the Itel S15 and Itel S15 Pro are fitted with the same 3000mAh battery, which is actually on the low side, considering what other phone makers are putting inside their phones that fall within that segment. Though the Itel-mobile says the new phones' inbuilt Power System management; which is an intelligent power management feature, will ensures that the battery stays longer on normal usage.
