iPhone XS Offers More Speed, Improved Camera and Better Specs than iPhone X.
Though, all the new iPhones are iterations of iPhone X, yet, iPhone XS is the exact replica of the iPhone X, because both of them come with the same display size (and type), notch, stainless steel frame, dual-rear camera, glass back and even same body thicknesses. In fact, their physical difference lies in slightly change in weights; because while the previous iPhone X weigh 174 grams (6.14 ounces), the new iPhone XS weigh 177 grams (6.24 ounces). But inside, the major internal components of iPhone X have been upgraded in the new iPhone XS, therefore the new iPhone XS is equipped with more speed, better performance and improved cameras.
Meanwhile, iPhone XS comes in Gold, Silver and Space Gray colours, unlike iPhone X that comes in only Silver and Space Gray colours.
The starting price for the base model, i.e. the one with 64GB internal storage is US $999 (UK £999) while that one of 256GB storage is US $1149 (UK £1149) and US $1349 (UK £1349) is the price of iPhone XS with largest internal storage of 512GB.
Below are more details on the specifications of iPhone XS including those of previous iPhone X that can still be found in the new iPhone.
Identical Display Size and Type: if you're an iPhone X user or owner, you must have been familiar with the superior quality of the previous iPhone display, therefore, the new iPhone XS is fitted with same 5.8-inch, edge to edge, OLED display which Apple referred to as Super Retina HD Display. The new display also features the same screen aspect ratio of 19.5:9 with 2436x1125 resolution and 458ppi. True Tone display, Wide Colour (P3), 3D Touch and HDR are some of the features of the iPhone X display that can still be found in the new iPhone.
New Processor, 4GB RAM and Higher Storage option of 512GB: Introducing in iPhone XS, and in the two other new iPhones (iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR), is the latest Apple's A12 bionic processor, and according to the company, this latest hexa-core processor is up to 15 percent faster than iPhone X's A11 Bionic hexa-core processor and also 50 per cent power efficient than the previous processor. In addition to the new processor, iPhone XS also comes with 4GB of RAM, which means the new iPhone XS' memory exceed that of the iPhone X with 1GB of RAM, because iPhone X came with 3GB of RAM. Meanwhile, just like in previous iPhones, iPhone X also comes with the storage size option of either 64GB or 256GB. But in the new iPhone XS, Apple added to this two standard storage size by presenting the buyers with another higher storage option of 512 GB.
The Latest iOS 12: Although this is for both new iPhones and existing ones, which means iPhone X's iOS 11 is upgradable to this latest O.S. Still, iPhone XS is preloaded with the iOS 12, the Apple's latest operating system (O.S) for its mobile devices. The new O.S promises both the new and previous iPhones' better performances and faster applications launch, the new iOS also comes with some interesting features such as Memoji (the new and improved Animoji), Group notification, Screen Time, Siri shortcuts. Later, the new iOS will also be featured Group Face Time, which can be used by up to 32 people.
First Dual SIM iPhone: iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the first set of Apple's iPhones to feature dual SIM slots. Therefore, unlike iPhone X that has a single SIM slot, iPhone XS has dual SIM slots. However, instead of regular 2 physical SIM card slots that can be found on many other smartphones, iPhone XS' dual SIM card slots are made up of 1 physical SIM card slot and 1 digital SIM slot otherwise known as eSIM (electronic SIM). This second slot or eSIM is more of a blank "virtual SIM" slot (space), and to make use of it, you'll have to register for eSIM connectivity from a telecom operator that provides eSIM service.
How does eSIM work?
Through software updates, downloads, or other related means,
the telecom operator (that provides eSIM service) will put phone number (SIM ID), like that on your physical SIM card, on this eSIM virtual slot inside your iPhone and it will start to function like your physical SIM card.
Meanwhile, the above unusual dual SIM setup doesn't apply to the iPhone X (or iPhone XS Max) that's meant for the China market, because, unlike other parts of the world, the Chinese will have the privilege of having physical dual SIM card slots on their new iPhones.
Same, but enhanced, Dual Back Camera: the new iPhone XS back camera set up is the same as that of iPhone X, i.e. iPhone XS also comes with the same dual 12MP (f/1.8 & f/2.4) rear facing camera. Furthermore, some the features of iPhone X's back cameras such as 2x optical zoom, dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Quad-LED True Tone, can still be found in the new iPhone XS back cameras.
Meanwhile, the new iPhone XS' dual back camera comes with enhanced features such as Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth control, Smart HDR, and upgraded sensor. And speaking of the upgraded sensor, the iPhone X's primary rear lens of 1.2um pixels has been upgraded to larger 1.4um pixels in the new iPhone XS. This improved, larger 1.4um sensor enables the lens to accommodate more light, thereby assist the camera in producing clearer and better pictures, also with this development, the new camera will be able to offer detailed and brighter images of the pictures taken at nights or low light conditions.
Same 7MP Front Facing Camera: Just like in its rear facing dual camera, also the front facing camera set up of the new iPhone XS is the same as that of iPhone X, in other words, the new iPhone XS comes with 7MP (f/2.2) front facing camera with True Depth technology for Face ID and Animoji. Meanwhile, the new iPhone XS' front facing camera offers faster Face ID unlocking, added to this are the new features like Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth control, Portrait Lighting, Smart HDR and the Memoji.
Wireless charging and Faster Gigabit-Class LTE: Because the new iPhone XS comes with the glass back, therefore, it supports wireless charging like iPhone X. Although, the new iPhone XS wireless charging promises to be faster than that of iPhone X, yet, the new iPhone features the same 7.5W Qi-certified wireless charging that is found in the previous iPhone X.
For super fast internet downloading speed, Apple makes use of Gigabit-Class LTE, or simply Gigabit LTE, in the new iPhone XS, remember Apple didn't include Gigabit-LTE in its 2017's iPhone X, yet Samsung introduced it in its Galaxy S8 for the same year.
More than 4G (LTE) of the iPhone X, the new iPhone XS' Gigabit LTE ensures super fast downloading speed of up to 1Gb per second on the new iPhones, yet, Gigabit LTE is still one step behind 5G technology.
Waterproof Rating and Battery Life:
On water-resistance rating, the new iPhone XS is IP68 rated because it can survive for up to 30minutes inside the water (or mud) of 2 metres depth. Meanwhile, it should be recalled that iPhone X was IP67 rated because it can survive for up to 30 minutes inside the water (or mud) of 1 metre depth.
On the battery lives, the new iPhone XS comes with a battery capacity of 2658 mAh, which is slightly less than 2716 mAh of the previous iPhone X, despite this, Apple says that the new iPhone XS can last up to 30mins longer than iPhone X.
