Samsung Mobile has released Galaxy Tab S4, which the company also referred to as 2-in-1 android tablet because of the ability of the Tab S4 to switch from the Tab's usual android interface to Desktop PC-like interface in other to perform desktop PC's functions with the aid of Samsung Dex. The Tab S4's starting price for the base model (i.e., the one with 64GB built-in storage ) is $650 and $750 for the other model with internal storage of 256GB.
New Design And Big Display: Choosing the Wi-Fi Version of the Tab S4 which weigh about 482g, compare to the Tab S3's weight of 429g, the new Tab S4 is a little heavier than the its predecessor. Also, it should be noted that the galaxy Tab S4 is taller but slightly narrower than the S3. Furthermore the Tab S4 has 2 colour options of either white or black, and both colours are glossy. The new Tab also comes in usual Wi-Fi and LTE Versions.
Samsung finally moved away from hitherto 9.7-inch screen size, which was used in the Tab S2 and Tab S3 respectively. The new Tab features 10.5-inch super AMOLED display with 2560*1600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio.
The new tab has slimmer bezels and the 4 of them now seems to be of equal size, in thicknesses. Perhaps, because of the slimmer bezels of the Tab S4, both the Samsung logo (at the top) and the home button (at the bottom), which also housed Fingerprint reader in the Tab S3, are missing in the new tab.
No Fingerprint reader, Same Back camera: The fingerprint reader is absent in the new Tab, because the sensor can't be found in the front of the phone, neither at the back. Therefore, when it comes to the user's authentication of the Tab S4, besides the usual pass code, Samsung makes use of Iris scanning and Face recognition for the security enhancement.
At the back of the new Tab is 13-MP lens, it should be recalled that the previous S3 has the same megapixel rear camera. However, the front camera of the new Tab is 8MP, instead of 5MP that came with the previous model.
O.S, Processor, RAM and Storage: the Samsung galaxy Tab S4 comes with Android 8.1 (Oreo), which can be upgraded to Android P later. Although the Tab S4 processor is better than that of Tab S3, still the new Tab processor is the last generation Octa-Core 2.3GHz, Snapdragon 835. Remember Samsung Note 8 was equipped with the same processor.
The base version of the new Samsung galaxy tab S4 comes with built-in storage capacity of 64GB, while the higher version features 256GB of internal storage space. This means that this year's base model offers more internal storage space, double precisely, than the last year's base model that came with 32GB.
Unfortunately, tab S4 still maintains the same 4GB of RAM that came with the Tab S3. Furthermore, the tab S4 has slot option for MicroSD card, which can be expanded, up to 400GB.
S-Pen and Samsung Dex: With the same 0.7mm tip and pressure sensor level of 4,096, the new Tab S-pen shares the specs with its predecessor, meanwhile, just like in Samsung Note 8, the new S-pen supports Screen off memo; which allows you to quickly write ideas as they come to your mind on your S4's screen without unlocking it.
There are also others S-Pen supported features i.e. Live message and S-pen Translate.
Without using Dex station or Dex pad, Samsung Dex is a mode in the new Tab S4, which gives you the opportunity to use your Tab S4 as desktop PC. In other words, Android interface on your new Tab automatically switch to desktop PC-like interface the moment you connect the Tab to your Samsung keyboard (sold separately, $150).
Or alternatively, if you have an android supported Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you can also connect them to the Tab S4 and proceed to launch the Samsung Dex via the Onscreen quick panel.
Your recent apps on Android interface will be found automatically in taskbar when switch to desktop-PC interface. You can also hook up the Tab S4 to your monitor via HDMI-to-USB-C Adapter (sold separately).
Ports, Speakers and others: Like its predecessor, the Tab S4 is equipped with 4 AKG-tuned speakers, and while a pair is positioned at the top of the tab the other pair is situated at the bottom, also, the Tab's audio surround sound is powered by Dolby Atmos technology. As usual, at the bottom edge of the Tab S4 located headphone jack and a USB-C port and at the side of the Tab is the pin connector for the Keyboard.
Battery: While the previous Tab S3 came with a 6000 mAh battery, the new Samsung Tab S4 features higher battery capacity of 7300 mAh, and Samsung claims that it can last up to 16 hours of video playback. The Tab S4 also supports fast charging via the Tab's USB-Type-C port.
