Introducing The First All-Screen Phone: Vivo Nex
Tweet
Vivo has released first all-screen phone and it's called Vivo Nex, all-screen in the sense that the phone has no usual top bezel, speaker grille, flash LED, not even recently introduced notch. Remember, in an effort to get rid of the aforementioned features, iPhone X introduced notch which many phone brands quickly adopt. Eventually, Vivo has found ways to do away with these features in Nex. It should be noted that Vivo Nex is the outcome of Vivo Apex Concept, introduced in February, this year!.
Display: The Vivo Nex has a whooping screen size of 6.59 inch Super AMOLED Display with Full HD+ (2316*1080) resolution, and an aspect ratio of 19.3:9. The phone's screen-to-body ratio is almost 100%, almost! because the phone still has 4.3 mm slimmer bezel at the bottom while the top and sides have 1.8mm bezels (which is hard to come by).
Because Vivo Nex front is all-screen, the followings are what happened to the conventional front camera and phone speakers;
Pop-up front facing camera:The phone adopts a Mechanical front facing camera, which quickly pop-up on top-edge of the phone whenever you want to take Selfie, this camera mechanism somehow looks like that of the Hybrid-Sim tray, which requires an ejector pin to pull out, but in case of the Vivo Nex camera, you don't need ejector, the single 8MP camera lens pop-up by itself in less than 2 seconds when the need arises, and it goes in again when you are done.
Onscreen fingerprint Reader: On this, Vivo make use of Under-display fingerprint scanner technology, which the company has employed before in its X20 Plus UD. Therefore, the fingerprint reader can be accessed on the screen, in fact, this virtual or onscreen fingerprint reader is even occupies a larger area (than physical one) of the screen whenever it appears, also, if you're skeptical about its security due to the novelty of the scanner, there is an option for 2 fingerprint readers for security improvement, and this requires 2 of your fingers to unlock the phone.
Front Speaker: Because there is no space for speakers grille, therefore, the phone doesn't have usual front speaker(s), instead Vivo make use of the Screen Soundcasting technology, which vibrates the phone'screen to produce sound like speaker.
Conventional Rear cameras and glassy Back cover: at the top, left corner of the phone located vertically aligned Dual camera, 12MP and 5MP respectively. Furthermore, Vivo embedded AI feature in the Nex cameras, though, the company has previously used the feature in some of its phones. The back of the phone is made up glassy surface.
Just like Google's Voice command and Samsung Bixby, Vivo Nex also feature a similar Voice Assistant technology called Jovi and there is also a dedicated button for it.
The battery capacity of Vivo Nex is 4000mAh, but under heavy usage and with the ample 6.59 inch Display, the battery might not be able to sustain the phone for a long time.
