Reviews say LG has familiar-feeling to its G7ThinQ design, not only because the design resembles those of most of 2018 high-end phones, also because the phone share similar specifications with those flagship phones. For instnce, G7thinQ has a small cutout at the top of the display, which is otherwise known as notch (LG called it New Second Screen) which can be found in the likes of iPhone X, Huawei P20 Pro and so on. And if you don't like the notch. Just like in those aforementioned phones, there are provisions (in settings) of black bars and backgrounds for user to hide the notch of G7thinQ.
But there are other features that can be found in this phone that are worth looking at:
*Super Bright display: If not all, most of the flagship phones this year come with OLED displays, which are known for its ability to display good contrast and deep black, However, G7ThinQ comes with IPS Display. Interestingly, the phone Super Bright feature makes this display stand out among the rest, even among those ones with OLED. This is because most of the high-ends phones' display brightness, even OLED ones, peak around 500-600 nits. But with its Super Bright feature, LG boast of 1000 nits of G7ThinQ IPS display, and such brightness is helpful when using the phone in direct sunlight. On normal lighting condition, the G7thinQ display brightness won't go beyond 600-700 nits. However, the moment you try to use it in bright sunlight, it'll will automatically activate the "Super Bright" mode (1000 nits). Although, you can manually increase the brightness to 1000 nits in a normal lighting environments, but in such environments the screen brightness can only stay so for only 3 minutes, this in order to save power and prevent the phone from overheating.
*19.5 : 9 Screen aspect ratio: Since 2017, phone makers are moving away from standard 16:9 aspect ratio to 18:9 among such phone is LG G6 (G7thinQ predecessor). Some major brands are even adopting 18.5:9 in their flagship phones, for instance the recent Samsung galaxy S9, even Huawei 20 Pro went further with its 18.7:9 aspect ratio. However, LG goes beyond these recent aspect ratios by adopting 19.5:9 for its G7thinkQ, which gives the phone more narrower and sleeker look despite its big 6.1" screen.
*AI Camera: with its V30S and now G7, LG joined the other phone makers that are introducing phones with AI Cameras. Huawei P20 Pro is an example of such phones. How does it work?; phone Camera that has an AI feature (Or Apps) Automatically identifies the subject matter that the camera is about to shoot, then the camera detects and supplies the name by itself, and proceed to give the subject the optimum settings that it's required before the user finally take the picture. In other words, while aiming at and focusing on a particular subject, the camera will randomly supplies many names until it find the name that match that of the subject or the one close to it and give the camera the optimum settings that best fit that particular subject. Where do these names come from? They come from the list of embedded names in the Camera's AI App and they are meant for different subject matter accordingly. There are a total number of 18 names overall, among these are baby, beverages, sky, snow and pets, to mention a few.
*Google Assistant Hotkey: This dedicated button launches Google Assistant, and it is placed at the left side of the phone, below the volume buttons.
*Google Assistant command: Through this, LG makes use of "far-field voice recognition" to access activate Google Assistant by saying "Ok Google". Also, this voice command can be used to access phone camera by saying " Hey Google, open camera with AI Cam".
*ThinQ: Is LG brand "name" for its Premium products (appliances and electronics) with AI features. All LG products with this code name (ThinQ) will be able to connect and communicate with one another under one 'AI assisted' platform. In case of G7thinQ, therefore, this phone is expected to connect, access and communicate with other LG's ThinQ premium products such as TVs, refrigerators and Air-conditioners, etc., however, this feature is currently available only in Korea, it's expected to reach others region soon
*Other features worth mentioning: the LG Boom Box Speaker, this enables G7thinQ to offer better quality sound with higher volume more than most flagship phones in the market. "Super Brightness" low-light mode for Camera; activates itself when taking pictures in low-light environments. Also, both front and rear cameras support Super Wide angle and Portrait mode shots.
