Google just rolls out the latest version of its popular browser, Chrome; which also the world most popular web browser, according to NetMarketShare, Chrome now has a worldwide market share of about 60 percent. The Chrome 66, like the rest of the previous version, is designed for Windows, Mac, Android and other prominent O.S. Apart from improved design and fixing the security bugs that used to affect some of the previous versions there are other improved security features such as Password Exports.
However, the prominent feature of Chrome 66 is its default videos auto-play prevention, the browser prevents any websites (such as YouTube) with pre-loaded videos, especially the ones with sound, from playing automatically when open such website in a new page. It does this by muted the sound and disable the video playback, though, similar feature was introduced in Chrome 64 but it can only be muted manually.
Therefore, this is a good development for many Chrome users because unexpected, sometimes unwanted, sound and video accompany auto-play content has always been annoying experience for some of these users. Also, unexpected auto-play media contents consume unnecessary more data and power, which may slow down the device when browsing. Therefore, by default, media contents auto-playing has been disabled, unless you choose to enable it.
...There are conditions!
*Videos that don't come with sound will automatically play, in other word, this default muting feature won't prevent video, specifically made, without a sound from auto-playing.
*If you have previously visited the page and played the content(s), if you somehow interacted the media on the page before, and if you have always watched videos on the page, especially from a desktop browser. In all these mentioned conditions, auto-play of such contents won't be automatically prevented.
*Also, the default auto-play prevention won't work, if you have added the website to your mobile device's home screen.
